I followed the First Candle/SIDS Alliance recommendation not to use bumpers. They aren't necessary.

I have trouble getting them to fit too, but I use them.
I tried taking them out and her feet kept getting stuck in the slats.

Re: do you use the bumpers or no?
I did in the beg. when he didnt move-
But as soon as he started rolling, and I woke up to him being underneath them, one morning... I ripped those suckers out...
He has hit his head a bunch of times on the side... and not once has it left a mark.... (when I took the bumper out my mom and MIL- where so worried he would get seriously hurt)
Honestly- for us- it wasnt worth the risk-
Im not so sure- If they are as dangerous in the beg. before they can roll..

this happens to Grace too. I feel uncomfortable having them in her crib, but I don't want her foot to get stuck. Any suggestions??

I use our bumbers....I think it looks so uncomfortable without them and thank goodness we've never had a problem with her being underneat them or anything.

We used them until she started rolling over in her crib. My peditrician told us to take them out at that point.

I took them out at 4 months then just put them back in about a month ago. Jacob needs to feel closed in and the bumpers help. So far no probs with him being under them or up close to them.

We left them in the whole time, but ds needs to have his face against something to sleep, he always rolls himself into the corner and would definitely nail his head if they weren't in there.

Re: do you use the bumpers or no?
I use them because DD got her leg caught between the slats twice when I wasn't using them. I have them tied nice and tight, and the bottom is kind of tucked behind the mattress.

Re: do you use the bumpers or no?
I've used them for both kids. Andrew had them in his crib until he was 20 months old, then I took them out to start to get him ready for his big boy bed (we knew #2 was on its way at that time). Lauren has them in the crib now.

Re: do you use the bumpers or no?
Good question! Brianna is trying to pull herself up on them and I don't know if I should take them out. I have one ontop of another becasue the crib is a heavy wood and she keeps slamming her head on it I don't know if I should take them out or not..

Re: do you use the bumpers or no?
i still use the bumpers...bella is 11 months old. I tried not using them but she sticks her legs and arms through the slats of the crib and i feel like she would roll into the bars of the crib and hurt herself. My bumpers have ties on them to tie onto the slats of the crib i havent had any trouble with them

Re: do you use the bumpers or no?
I don't use the bumpers that came with our bedding due to SIDS but because Andrew is all over the place we had to do something. I bought the breathable bumper and it is working out great!! It is made out of mesh so if his little face goes into it he can still breathe and it blocks the slots so he can't get his arms or legs stuck

I was going to suggest the same mesh breathable bumpers. It works really well to keep them from getting body parts stuck between the rails.

No, don't use them, don't see any need to use them. Wouldn't waste my money on bumpers or bedding....

Re: do you use the bumpers or no?
I actually took the bumpers out not for the SIDS risk, but because it was IMPOSSIBLE to change the sheets! Everything was fine until DS started rolling all over his crib and sticking his legs through the slats. I bought the breathable bumpers and they work well for keeping body parts in the crib, but are not really very padded so when DS rolls over he sometimes bumps his head against the railings. He doesn't seem phased by it though. The breathable ones are also supposed to be good for when the kiddies start standing up in the crib. They will collapse when stepped on so they keep them from using the bumper to help them climb out. You should probably be able to use the breathable ones on your crib since there are no ties. It has velcro and the parts where you use the velcro are all in the front of the crib.

Re: do you use the bumpers or no?
I am not sure you can say they are not necessary...it will depend on the baby you have. My son has always slept on his side..although that is a SIDS risk, when you have an early colicky baby, you let them sleep however they want!! With that said, when he sleeps on his side, his arms and legs stick out in front of him and he rests them against the bumpers, when we tried to sleep him without them after my mom was screaming about SIDS, he got his leg stuck and woke up screaming in the middle of the night!!!!
so if you have a baby like mine, the bumpers are very necessary....now he is 7 months and teh SIDS risk is really behind us as he can roll over and lift his head etc.
I would say keep an open mind, but if you use them make sure they fit and are tied tight!

Yes, we still have them in. They are not very plush and we haven't had any problems with them.

same here. they make me a little nervous- DD already moves around a bit & I don't want her rolling into the bumpers & getting stuck.
