Do you use fertilizer on the grass that your children play on?

My hubby wants to fertilize the backyard, but fertilizer scares me especially since my kids are outside from 7am-8pm once it gets nice, anyone know of any "safe" fertilizing methods? TIA

Sorry, I refuse to use fertilizer. Even before DS but especially now.

They do have Organic fertilizer now, I saw it at Home Depot. It might be worth checking it out.

Nope. Our landscaper uses fertilizer on the front but nothing in the back yard. Andy has such sensitive skin our ped. said that if we use anything where he'll be playing it should be organic, my landscaper said even the organic stuff is allowed to have 10% of chemicals. I'd rather a crappy looking back yard than risk it.

Yup, I believe my landscaper uses organic fertilitzer but I will just keep her off the lawn for a few days after, no big deal.

I don't have kids yet but we NEVER use fertilizer. Besides what it does for our groundwater system, we have a dog and I would rather a few weeds than a sick dog.

So once baby is born I KNOW we will continue to be fertilizer/pesticide/chemical free.

Actually our lawn is nicer than most of the neighbors'...gues it isn't even necessary!

My husband is a golf course superintendent and when her fertilizes, he doesn't even have the dogs run the grass. We would use fert in the front yard but not in the backyard.

Thanks ladies, you all voiced my sentiments, fertilizer is too toxic, my kids ran across my MOm's lawn yesterday and I thougth my Mom would have a heartattch, she screamed "Dad just fertilized the lawn last night!!!!". Do you think it is ok that they just ran across it quickly?

DH didnt put any fertilizer down when I was PG, and now put down organic, because this summer my boys will be out on their little swing set

I know this is an old topic. We fertilized this weekend and used Organica organic fertilizer. The downside is that it is double the cost of regular fertilizer
