Do you use a cookbook?

Where do you get your recipes?

If you use a book, what is your favorite?

TIA!

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I like Betty Crocker for basics...I generally don't use cookbooks or recipes unless I am making something new or specific.

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I don't own a cookbook. The only thing that I use recipes for are normally desserts. I like recipes.com and foodnetwork.com.

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I own quite a few cookbooks. I LOVE cookbooks and new recipes.

I get my recipes from everywhere though. I have family recipes, recipes from magazines or online, etc. I don't really have a favorite book though because they're all so different (desserts, South American regional, Italian dishes, etc).

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I sometimes use a cookbook. I like The Best of Cooking Light and the Weight Watchers cookbook. But mostly I search the web for recipes and usually adapt them to my own preferences.

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I have 67 cookbooks (it's a sickness), and I do use them. Some are pamphlet type books that my MIL gave me (vintage ones ), the rest are ones that I've collected over the past 25 years.
I also have a lot of recipes that I've clipped from magazines and downloaded from the Internet. Those are arranged in binders by main ingredient.

My all time favorite is Julia Child's "The Way To Cook". Taught me a lot of basics and techniques.

Two that I don't own and would add to my collection are "The Joy of Cooking" and "Mastering the Art of French Cooking".

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I have a lot of cookbooks - I use them for inspiration and for learning techniques that I might be unfamiliar with.

Once I know a technique or a basic recipe I play with it a lot - different ingredients, spices and sometimes marrying different methods.

For example.. I use the recipe for a basic risotto to understand the 'how to' - and then I play - using veggie stock or chicken stock as the liquid, adding different cheeses or veggies, etc..

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I own about 40 cookbooks, but a lot of them were passed along to me from my mom (she doesn't like to cook but over the years my dad would inexplicably keep buying them as gifts for her).

I find I use cookbooks more for baking. Most of my cooking seems to be either from a magazine or online recipe, or just improvised/tweaked. My favorite baking cookbooks are the King Arthur Flour Baking Book, and Martha Stewart's Cookies.

ETA: I love just flipping through and reading cookbooks, even if I'm not looking for a particular recipe. I always seem to get inspired that way, and it's so relaxing.

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I ahve a bunch of cookbooks. I use them sometimes. I usually find recipes online. sometimes i follow them, sometimes they are more of a guide for me.

My favorite cookbooks are:
The Silver spoon
Everyday italian
Betty Crocker (an old one from my mom)
and, this is kinda funny, my mom got me a cookbook for my wedding shower that is supposed to be food to get you in the mood. haha its called something like sensual food. I don't remember the name. Anyway, it actually has really good recipes and they are for 2 servings. I actually use it a lot. I'll have to get the actual name of it to post here.

Re: Do you use a cookbook?

I only have a few books. I get most of my recipes online from allrecipes or foodnetwork.

My favorite cookbooks are the Barefoot Contessa ones, the photos are gorgeous and the recipes are great! My mom has most of them and I steal them from her from time to time. I just got How Easy is That from Homegoods and it's great. So easy and delicious.

ITA!!!!

I collect them from all over. Street festivals, friends, gifts, the little pamphlets at the checkout. I love Barefoot Contessa, my kids love Rachel Ray and my all-time favorite is the original Better Homes & Gardens red and white checked.

Like Rojerono said, I learned a lot of techniques (how to roast a chicken, what meats are best for what type of cooking, etc...It's like my kitchen bible.

My most treasured one is an autographed Tom Colicchio one. I haven't used it yet, though.
