Do you throw matches in the garbage after you use them....
or do you rinse them, or let them "sit" until they are good and cooled off?
My Dad always taught us to let them cool off before throwing them out or they could re-ignite in the garbage can.
DH just laughs at me when I do that..

I put them in an ashtray IF I use them. I tend to use a lighter.

I rinse them off first. Same with candles before i put away. Never thought why i did it, just did.. I guess i had a fear of reigniting also, which sounds kinda silly but you never know.

On the rare occasion that I use matches, I place them in a cup/dish of water and/or let them sit to cool off.
But I generally use butane candle lighters.

Thanks Katie. It was put out and we only lost one side of the house - no one was hurt.
The lesson we all learned (especially dear brother) was even if you think something is cool, it can smolder for hours, melt, and burst into flames!

I usually use a lighter when I light candles, but if I use a match then I'll put it into a cup of water to cool before disposing of it in the trash.

My brother did this too...playing with matches in the closet.
I toss them in the toilet.

I wet them before they go in the garbage.
I used to never have to worry about that since I was a smoker and only used lighters. But once I quit smoking for whatever reason I gave all my lighters away.
