Do you think its possible???

To adopt a 7mo old dog names "oreo" and change it to "Sadie" ?? Is it confusing ? mean? bad idea?? need opinions or advice if anyone has done this.. TIA!!

Brinkley's original name was Boss. He is SO not a boss. He picked up his new name within a week.

They named him Boss after a football player, but still... I wanted him to have a new name for his new family. And he was 9 months old. Just think of all the dogs in shelters that they don't know what their name is - they have to rename all of them.

It's very easy to reteach. Just use their new name before you give them a command. Then start calling their name and treating them if they acknowledge the name by looking at you or coming to you. Easy peasy.

No my cat was 5 months old his name was Teri, I renamed him Dominck no problem...

Yes!
We found our cat. She was a stray, but had a home at some point. The vet estimated her to be about 7 years old. Obviously we had no idea of knowing what her name was, so we made up our own.
She responds to it just fine.
(well, she gets moody sometimes and comes to us in her own time, lol)

Changing a dogs is name is probably the easiest thing to teach them. Our dog was a year and half when we got him and there was no problem changing his name.

As everyone else said, it's no problem to change their name. My dog had a diferent name when I adopted her, she responded right away. Every once in a while I say her old name to test her and she doesn't respond to that anymore.. (it was a stupid name, she must know that )

I definitely think you can change a dogs name without a problem. 7mos really isn't that long of a period of time.

We got Misty at 8 months old and changed her name...she was responding to Misty within a week.

Well we picked up Sadie today! Spaniel Beagle mix.. She is so adorable calm sweet.. My twin nephews loved her immediately,.. She is going to have a wonderful life,,

We are just going to call her Sadie and hopefully it goes well.. Love her

NOOOOOO my sister!! I know better than to take that on!! She adopted her from bobbi and the strays!! Sooo amazing!! She was given up from a family who lost there home

I would go for it, give the doggie a new name and a new start. My dogs have so many "names" nicknames, yet they still know their real name. LOL
