Do you take your infants out to dinner?

When DS was first born, we'd go out to dinner and he'd just sleep all the time. That was when he'd nap/sleep all day. Ever since he had a night routine (around 3-4 m old), we have yet to take him out to dinner since his bedtime is around 7:30.

just wondering what other mommies did.

Do you ever go out to dinner with infants if it is past their bedtime?

We have always taken Christopher out to eat. From when he was 3 days old until tonight at 2.5

Always. The moment I was healed enough from my c-section, we were out to dinner. We've never stopped since then!

We always took him out to dinner - sometimes we were at the early bird special, but it was still dinner Chat Icon

Yup, I have a 5 month old and a 3 year old and they have both been going to restaurants since they were 2 weeks old. My DD is very accustomed to restaurant eating and behaves accoridngly (most of the timeChat Icon )

Yes, at least twice a week. We just bumped up the time to 6pm which was weird at first since we were used to going at 9pm but we were just happy to get out. When he was really little we used to try to work it around a bottle and one of us would eat one handed and feed him with the other. When he was old enough for the high chair, he'd eat his puffs one by one and it would entertain him the entire time (oh how I long for those days Chat Icon )

Re: Do you take your infants out to dinner?

Does it not interfere with their sleep schedule?

Do they get cranky from being overtired?

We've never tried it. I am hoping to eat out more. I can't cook and we literally used to eat out everyday before DS was born.

Re: Do you take your infants out to dinner?

Yes, but not at "normal" dinnertime. If we go out to dinner with them it is usually around 5ish. If it goes too much past their bedtime (7) they start to melt down and it isn't enjoyable for anyone.

I just realized they are not infants anymore, but we've been doing this since they were around 6-7 months.

DS was always an early to bed kid (7-7:30) which is why we just made sure we went really early. And the minute he seemed cranky, we were out of there!

Yes we've always gone out to eat. Usually about once a week. They actually behave better in a restaurant than at home!!! (3 and 18 months)

I always have crayons, coloring books, travel doodle boards, and small snacks with me.

Re: Do you take your infants out to dinner?

We're in FL now visiting IL's and we just got back from having dinner at 7pm. DS usually has his last feeding around 7:30 and into bed for the night. I got him in his jammies and breastfed a little before we left. Then fed him some more at the restaurant while we ordered and he was asleep in his carseat/snap n go by the time appitizers came and slept all through dinner, the ride home and transfer to the crib. My good boy!

We go out to dinner often and DS is awesome. New Year's Eve, we did an early seating (because we're fuddy duddies!) at 4:30, brought DS's dinner, carrots, peas and cereal, fed him at 5 and he was content and playing in his stroller the whole dinner. We were there until 6:30. Went home, bath, jammies, book, feeding and bed.

We just plan around him losely and I do not have a problem with BFing at a table in a restaurant, fancy or not, very discreet. I've had my order taken with DS under cover and when the deliver the food and see him there, they are like, where did he come from?!

Re: Do you take your infants out to dinner?

We have gone out twice. It's hard because he wants to eat every 2 1/2 hours. So we have to leave as soon as he is done eating, expect he needs to sit up 25 minutes because of his reflux. So we have about 2 hours to go out which is fine if there is no wait, which is never on the weekends which is the only time we feel like going out.

Re: Do you take your infants out to dinner?

We have taken her out to dinner, but she doesn't have a set bedtime yet (3 months old). When DH and I want to go out for a nice dinner we are lucky to have parents who want to watch her and let us go out.

When the time comes, I probably wouldn't keep her out past her bedtime unless it was a special event.

When we do, we try to go earlier...if its not too much past her bedtime, then we do. If its going to be later, we (I) find someone to watch her.

That's what we've been doing. DH and I probably go out to dinner once every week or so and we each go out with a friend alone once a week.

We have not yet taken DS out to dinner with us after he had a routine. We did go out to dinner up until he was about 4m old.

Yes, we bring Ashley out to dinner with us. If there is a lot going on, she's usually entertained enough not to get cranky-even if it is past her bedtime. once we get in the car to go home, she will most likely pass out!

Do you give her a bath if she passes out in the car or just put her to bed for the night?

I will generally bathe them before dinner and them just change them when we get home into their jammies or just skip it for the night.

Re: Do you take your infants out to dinner?

We've always taken him out to dinner. Now, we try to eat out before his bedtime, but there were times when he slept in the stroller as an infant. Now that he's about 13 months, it's harder to go out for long dinners. DS starts getting restless.

Always!! We either try to go out a little earlier so we're home or bring in the stroller so she can fall asleep being rocked for a few minutes.
