Do you say anything?
So last night I run into the grocery store to grab something for dinner. I get on the express line and this woman in front of me has about 30 items. Usually I would stew about it but I was really in a hurry and mad she would do this.
SO I said, you know this is an express lane. She gets all apologetic, says she didn't realize, let's me go ahead, etc. She said she was sorry to the whole line about 5 times. I was really glad I said something since I got out of there really quickly.
ok, long story short- do you say something if you notice a person abusing a privilege like an express line?

Re: Do you say anything?
Not usually.
I get that some people are just oblivious and don't read the signs. And there are people that read the sings, but don't care anyway.
It seems like this woman didn't realize one way or the other.

Re: Do you say anything?
I was a cashier, and I would say something to customers if it was busy in the store. I would just mention this is an express line, and would they mind going to another line.
That would take it off the customers to do so.
But on the flip side, if I was on the express line as the cashier, and I had no line, but the regular lines were long, I would call 1 customer over at a time with larger orders to ring them up to allieviate the lines.
Unfortunately customers don't pay attention sometimes.
Now, I do say something if they have a very large order in front of me. If they are 5 items over, I don't even bother.

Re: Do you say anything?
I normally don't say anything because I'm rarely in a rush for something.
I had a woman ask me in Target if she could go ahead of me on line (with her 30+ items). Her reasoning was her son was getting off of the bus at 2:20 (it was 2:15) & she had to meet him or he would be all alone. I said No because I needed to pick my own kids up (although I had enough time).
I thought she had some nerve. If it was truly important to pick your kid up in FIVE minutes, you drop your 30 items & go. She called her neighbor to get him....oh & he was 14.

Re: Do you say anything?
The other day some old lady cut ahead of me in line at linens n things- she had like 40 curtains, and disputed every price. I had one item, a huge 9 month prego belly, and a full bladder. It has nothing to do with your story, but it made me mad enough that I'm still grping mayeb... 2 weeks later.

Re: Do you say anything?
Usually I get passive aggressive about it, and say in a clueless voice, looking up for the sign - "OOps - I though I was on the express la - OH wait - This IS the express lane!!!"
Sometimes the person in front of me gets it - thats the one who is apologetic. The ones that did it on purpose and don't give a crap ignore me. If I'm holding a screaming toddler in my arms though, it usually works better!

Re: Do you say anything?
depends on just how "over" they are. if its a 10 item or less line and they have 12 then i dont care. now if its blatant and they have a cart full of stuff then yes, i point it out to them that they're on the wrong line.
but if im in a REALLY bad mood then i dont care if its 2 items or 10 items over, i open my mouth.

So do I- but they present another problem: those who have no idea how to use them attempting to OMG- this drives me nuts!!!!!
Also- the self checkouts aren't always labeled "express" so there are still those people that go there with full carts.

Re: Do you say anything?
it really dpends on the situation.
for the most part, it really doesnt bother me at all. life is too short.
99 out of 100 Im the one that lets someone go in front of me. I do it at least 3-4 times a month. I just feel I should if someone behind me has 3-4 items.
so then I justify to myself that it's ok thatI go on the expresss of 12 items, with my 14 items.
I know totally scrambled thoughts, but that's my take on it.

Re: Do you say anything?
I have also seen cashiers on express lines take a customer who has quite a few items because she has no one. I am not talking about a saturday afternoon but early in the morning.

I saw an older woman with 18, yes I counted, items in the 10 or less lane.....
Had I been in a hurry or in a mood,I would have said something....
In a realted topic, I get REALLY ****** when an elderly person abuses their age priveledge by thinking they can do just about whatever hey want. Don't flame, you ll know what I'm talking about!!!!
