Yes of corse, she will be in a cradle right next to our bed.
I believe that is recommended as far as SIDS concerns.

Our baby will be sleeping in his/her crib in his/her room, right next door to our bedroom

That was our plan to have Kaydyn sleep in the bassinet part of the pack and play until I went back to work. Well the 1st night home she screamed every time we put her in it. The 2nd night we tried the crib in her room and she slept 3-4 hours stretches so she has been in there since day 2 from the hospital.

Yes they do say that babies who sleep in the same room as their parents have a lower risk of SIDS. I have heard this several times but not 100% sure of the reasoning behind it.

Both my children were with me in our room in the beginning. DD for 6 months. DS almost 4 months and counting. He's actually in bed with me.

I would say yes for the first couple of weeks. I had my other two boys in our room for the first couple of week in the PNP basinet. It was easier for me to get up and nurse them during the middle of the night.

i've heard this too and i'm not 100% sure why... but i think it has something to do with baby's breathing being somehow better regulated when he/she is around other people breathing. i *think* there are studies that show that babies and their mothers are somehow attuned to one another in their breathing when they sleep close together.

having said that... DD will sleep downstairs in the pnp for the first few months, with either myself or DH nearby (hopefully getting at least some sleep). whoever is really sleeping will be upstairs.

Re: Do you plan to have the baby sleep in your bedroom in the beginning?

I was a nervous nelly, and I was nursing and recovering from a c-section, so getting out of bed and dragging my stiched up belly to the nursery to feed DD wasn't all too practical, so we kept her in the pack n' play in our room for 3 weeks.

But, she was (and still is) the loudest sleeper on EARTH and kept both of us up all night, so after 3 weeks of that hell, we moved her to her crib in her room.

Yes, he will be in the bassinet or in bed with us until he is sleeping long stretches...

The 2 boys will be sharing a room, so I need the baby to be somewhat sleeping to not wake my other DC

First I've heard of it, too, but here's an excerpt from an article:

http://sids-network.org/risk.htm
5. A separate but proximate sleeping environment is recommended: The risk of SIDS has been shown to be reduced when the infant sleeps in the same room as the mother. A crib, bassinet, or cradle that conforms to the safety standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission and ASTM (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials) is recommended. “Co-sleepers” (infant beds that attach to the mother’s bed) provide easy access for the mother to the infant, especially for breastfeeding, but safety standards for these devices have not yet been established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Although bed-sharing rates are increasing in the United States for a number of reasons, including facilitation of breastfeeding, the task force concludes that the evidence is growing that bed sharing, as practiced in the United States and other Western countries, is more hazardous than the infant sleeping on a separate sleep surface and, therefore, recommends that infants not bed share during sleep. Infants may be brought into bed for nursing or comforting but should be returned to their own crib or bassinet when the parent is ready to return to sleep. The infant should not be brought into bed when the parent is excessively tired or using medications or substances that could impair his or her alertness. The task force recommends that the infant’s crib or bassinet be placed in the parents’ bedroom, which, when placed close to their bed, will allow for more convenient breastfeeding and contact. Infants should not bed share with other children. Because it is very dangerous to sleep with an infant on a couch or armchair, no one should sleep with an infant on these surfaces.

That's interesting info about the SIDS connection. Thanks to everyone for sharing Chat Icon

With our king sized bed, our room is too small to fit a bassinet or pnp, so the baby will be in his/her own room (next to ours) from day 1...

Re: Do you plan to have the baby sleep in your bedroom in the beginning?

with my first baby, we kept her in our room in the pack and play (well she actually slept IN her bouncy seat that we put INTO the pack and play Chat Icon ) for the first 5 weeks and then she went into her crib. We MAY do the same for this baby or we may put him/her right into the crib from day one, not sure yet
