Do you need a desktop to have a wireless network?
Do you need to have a desktop in order to hook up a modem/router combination or can you use a laptop to start a household network?
Our desktop will need to be replaced soon, and we were thinking of just getting two laptops.
Any advantages? Disadvantages?
We were thinking it took less space and less power.
The only thing we would hook up is a printer.

have a wireless network and no desktop...works just the same as if you had a desktop...probably better since there is so much more mobility.

Some newer printers come wireless. I'm thinking of getting one of those next. (to replace the printer that DD broke.... If it's wireless, it's easier to put somewhere that she can't get to ....)
The router is what makes the wireless network, not the computers. My wireless network at home consists of a desktop (hardwired), laptop (wireless), Wii (wireless), solar panel monitor (wireless), DVR (wired) and a 2nd wireless router connected to the first for additional range.

I assumed it was older and usb...yes, new computers come wireless. If it is a network printer, you can wire the network printer to the router, say its in your office. As long as its on the network, you can access it.

I'm not disagreeing with you. You're most likely correct in your assumption. Just stating that I want a wireless one for myself, to keep it away from DD's inquisitive fingers....

nope...our wireless network is for our 2 laptops in the house.
the modem has nothing to do with it being a laptop or desktop.
