Do you need a bassinet and a crib?

A bassinet is just for newborns, right? Then they graduate to a crib?

Yup, you are correct. I think a lot of people, myself included, feel more comfortable with the baby in there room hence the bassinett or co-sleeper. After a few months they graduate to the crib.

Re: Do you need a bassinet and a crib?

depends!

People usually get a bassinet when the crib is down the hall in the nursery and they want their newborn to be in their bedroom for a couple months.

We're in a 1 BR apt, so the crib is in our bedroom, so obviously there's no need for a bassinet.

Alternatively, if your bedroom is large enough, the pack n' play can be in your bedroom for the first couple months so you can use that bassinet.

This is the big debate in our house right now Chat Icon

I think we are going to use the pack-n-play as a co-sleeper in our room and then have the crib in the nursery. Ideally, that will work out... but then again, I've never done this before so I'm just guessing Chat Icon

you don't need both unless you want both.

i did not want a bassinet--i wanted DS in his crib from day one. and that's where he's been every night for 2 months!

The baby's room is right next door to ours but our good friend lent us their beautiful cradle so we'll use that for a while in our room and when the baby outgrows it he/she will move next door into their crib. If we were not lent the cradle we'd probably just put the baby either in the crib right away OR use the pack and play in our room.

Correct, although if you choose you can put a NB in a crib from day 1.
