Do you make up nicknames for things?

My sister and I have a really bad habit of doing this. EVERYTHING has a nickname. Towns, daily things you do, people, etc.
For example: a snack is a snicky, a nap is a nippy, dinner is din-din, Ronkonkoma is Ronkompton (don't even ask me why because there's NO reason to it at all), Centereach is Centerico (again, no friggin reason why), Shinnecock is Shineycock ( I think that one is an obvious one), she's my sissa and I'm her sissy, #1 is a peepsterChat Icon , as in "I'll be right back, I have to make a peepster".

I don't know why, but EVERYTHING has some weird nickname when we speak to each other. Just wondering if we're the only weirdosChat Icon

So funny...my sisters and I do this too, and I just always figure we're cheesters. People ask me where I grew up and I always say Centerico.

ETA: I say you are just super cool, not weird.Chat Icon

Oh yes, the noises are reserved for JTChat Icon He knows which one means "Go get the baby from her nap", which one means, "I'm thirsty, can you get me a drink", etc.Chat Icon

Re: Do you make up nicknames for things?

Yesterday, I was on the phone with a potential landlord for about 5 minutes while in the car with my Riiiiich.

10 minutes after I hung up, he's LOOKING at me. Just looking. I yelped, "WHAT!!!" - he said, "Just wondering what 'errrrrrrrrrrrrhhhrrrrr' means. You did it about 8 times on the phone with that guy."

I wasn't happy with the guy, so clearly, 'errrrrrrrrrrrrhhhrrrrr' is not a good thing!!! Chat Icon

When I want chocolate milk...I make the sound of the spoon stirring inside the glass with my mouth and my dh knows what I want.

I also point to things using my lips. I think I got that from my MIL.Chat Icon

Re: Do you make up nicknames for things?

i'm going to try to spell some that have no other way to explain.

but yes, nicknames are all around!!!!

tee-ling, tee-ling (in a spanish accent) is what we call a wind chime

chirring-chirrang (again, in a spanish accent) while making a sawing motion with your hand means "let's go half-ers"

it's late and those are the two that come to mind
