Do you like solitude?

I often find that I really like being by myself. I do not get lonely. I do not feel alone in this world. I simply enjoy the peace of nothingness and no conversation. I spent much of my vacation from work last week by myself and felt very rested. My evenings were spent with DH and were enjoyable, but my days were my own. When I am not on vacation and at work, I have to be "ON" as I work with children with special needs and there is never down time - not even on prep periods. So my time at home alone is very precious to me.

Some people in my life have a hard time understanding that. If I have plans to be alone for a particular day, they feel a right to intrude upon that time or try to qualify that I don't have that right. Whatever - they have to get over it. I am not being anti-social. I have plenty of friends and I do leave my home - I am not agoraphobic.

Does anyone else like solitude?

I LOVE solitude.
I spend a tremendous amount of time alone & I LOVE it. I love to read, garden, take care of my pets-alone!
My mom is the type of person that HATES to be alone even for a minute-I think its so weird.
I have a job that requires me to be "on" all the time too & I talk ALL DAY. Sometimes I just don't want to talk anymore.

With 3 small kids I hardly ever have any alone time. I cherish what I do get though. If I could have more I Would take it in a heartbeat.

I guess being an only child, I'm used to it. When I can get an hour to myself...I feel great.

I am the youngest of 4 but pretty much raised alone because of a large age gap.

My Mom also likes to be surrounded by people. Her anxiety level increases tremendously when shes alone whereas my anxiety increases when I am surrounded by people - anxious people, hyper people or what I call "hot" people. I am very much a "cool" type person.

I absolutely love being by myself and totally need alone time in order to feel sane!...I have friends too but I'd probably have more if I didn't like doing things on my own so much!!

I do enjoy alone time. I love taking rides out east alone and stopping anywhere I want along the way.
I do this on vacation also. Since I can't sleep late, I always get up early and take walks alone.

I am the oldest of 4. I was never on my own until I got divorced from my ex.

I love my piece and quiet. Even after being remarried, I find that I need it and it "rejuvenates" me.

I love it too, always have. I love to be alone and just listen to the sounds of outside (wind, cars, kids, etc.). I don't get much of that either with 2 kids but I really appreciate it when I get it.

Most of the time I love it. Don't want to talk on the phone or anything, just be alone (well my dog is usually there too )

Honestly, I never did until just recently. to make a long story short, as most of you know I am traveling with DH- and since the move to GA- I have had no choice but to get used to solitude- I hated it- BUT, I am really beginning to find more activities I enjoy doing alone-I enjoy when DH comes home in the evening/or for lunch/dinner BUT, I don't mind being alone anymore- it's kind of nice somtimes

I have no problems with solitude and often find myself seeking it out when the need arises. I've traveled a lot by myself and I think you see things from a different perspective when you find it in yourself to do things alone. I think it's very healthy to be able to be comfortable in your own company.

i love it!!!I love to do most things by myself and then I remember about my DH and then have to include him out of principal!!

Yes, I love it too. Especially when I can be alone outside. My father used to take us backpacking when we were kids and I loved being out in nature, just enjoying everything.

When I'm on vacation (like next week), I like to balance my alone time with people time. Even just 1/2 a day can be great.

I call it spending quality time with myself.

I was the same way as a small child, too. My mother said she never had to entertain me ... when she was cooking dinner, she'd sit me at the kitchen table, and i'd make believe I was reading the newspaper, watch her cook, etc.

I love it and I treasure it. I agree with the people who said that it's a matter of being comfortable with yourself. My mom always said that she is proud that I like my own company. Still, I am also a very social person.

Yes I LOVE it!
After my surgery this past week my mom was here to take care of DD so I spent a lot of time alone in my room and it was really, really nice. I love my DH and DD but there is something to be said for periods of solitude.

I have to say that I absolutely love solitude. I thrive on it. I live within my own head. I work through things when I'm alone, I plan for my future, I relax, and I basically take care of myself when I have some solitude. I thought that having a baby would make that completely disappear, but when Ava goes to bed at night, and JT's still at work, I find that I enjoy that time so much.
