Do you lay your child down flat when you give a bath?

We visited some friends this weekend and we gave our little ones a bath together. Fun! Chat Icon

I noticed that my friend and I have VERY different methods of cleaning our children. She basically *scrubbed* down her child and at one point had him lying flat on his back (so his face was just poking out of the water) to clean his private area. Me - I just take my washcloth and clean DD as she frolicks around and get at every angle as she moves about. Chat Icon

So, just wondering which method you use ... Chat Icon

When they were very young I laid them flat. Now I just chase them around the tub with a soapy washcloth.

I do exactly what you do. Is she laying him flat to get the water out of his hair?

To clean any area that is in water I make her stand to reach and then she can sit back down. Before she could stand on her own in a tub I was more like you

No - she did it to clean his privates area. And forget the washing his hair - she lathered and scrubbed his head like he'd been rolling around in the mud on his head - the kid has not much more than a crewcut! Chat Icon

!I just try to get her while she's moving around, but I can see how her method would probably be a little more effective! Chat Icon

Bath time is more like funime, we play and he sits in the water, i wash his hair and use a washcloth to clean his body...theres no need to SCRUB I dont think unless they are truly dirty! Is she like that with her house to, ZI have a friend that is sooooo clean, always scrubbing everything down...hehe

I wash my DS the same exact way as you wash your DD. Sometimes I will also stand him up right at the end of his bath and make sure the soap is off his behind. First of all if I can't even imagine lying my DS down flat because he would definitely take a fit. Second of all it seems a little dangerous to lay a baby/toddler down like that in the bath tub.

DS won't let me lay him flat anymore. I used to be able to do it when he was younger. Now he sits, stands, squirms and I have to do what I can to soap him up and get him out!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I end up almost as wet as him sometimes! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I always prop them up a bit. It just seems like it would be more comfy. I actually ask my two year old to stand up so I can clean his privates and hind quarters quickly.

Re: Do you lay your child down flat when you give a bath?

I lift him up a bit and reach under him to clean his tush and pee pee areas. In all honesty, he has so many toys in the tub with him, I don't even think he knows I am there Chat Icon Chat Icon
I do scrub his hair though. He tends to rub his dirty hands in his hair (especially after eating a nice pasta meal with tomato sauce Chat Icon ). His hair is so blond, it would be too telling Chat Icon Chat Icon
