Do you know someone who smokes and...
They have children in the house while they do it?
I am not a smoker. I am watching the view and Whoopi said she is going to quite smoking becuase of the commercial thats on with the little kids that have smoke coming out of their mouths.
I know someone who's entire family smokes in the house. The little kids smell like smoke and I could only imagine how they must smell to the kids at school  Not to mention how bad that is for them

I would say almost all of my friends do not smoke. However I do know grandparents that smoke with their grandchildren IN the car.

My brother and SIL both smoke, they have 2 kids and have never smoked in the house or the car. they will stand outside and smoke. You can not smoke in or around the kids. When SIL was PG my Brother did the same thing. It is just a rule they have, they dont care if you smoke just not near the kids.

Was a product of that very scenario! Also, holidays were worse my mom, aunt, uncle and grandfather all around the table smoking..I used to have to stand outside for my eyes to clear. You could just see the plume over the table...NASTY

When I was younger, yes. Lots of my friends parents smoked in their houses. Also, I had Aunts and Uncles who smoked in the house with their kids.

Me too. But now my parents dont smoke in the house. I am a smoke and i wont dare smoke around my nieces and nephews or any children for that matter. I tried quitting but it's so hard. But DH and i are going to try to have kids soon so as soon as i get PG thats it for me. I don;t even enjoy it anymore

that was my house growing up. but then you were able to smoke everywhere.
Now i couldnt imagine smoking around children, or anyone else who wouldnt want to be exposed to it

My DH smokes - he goes outside.
The only time he will smoke in the car is if it is a long trip - and all of the windows get open and he basically hangs himself out of the car when he does. But that is a rare occasion.

When I was in law school, a fellow student (not my year) was pregnant. She would chain smoke outside the building - a good 8 months pregnant. I was disgusted by how selfish she was.
My dad smoked cigars while we were growing up, but quit a long time ago. My cousins still smoke, but never around the kids or indoors... My uncle still smokes cigars. My brother was a smoker but quit several years ago...
I'm just glad I never got in the habit. It may be hard to quit, but some of the most difficult things in life are worth it. My dad has a giant scar from open-heart surgery to show for his years of smoking...

My dad's mom used to smoke in the car with us kids in it. She would put the tiniest crack in the window and smoke away. It really makes me furious to think that my parents allowed her to do it. Meanwhile, at 23 I suffered my first asthma attack.
I can't make decisions for someone else, but nobody is every going to be allowed to smoke around my son.

Times have changed and people are more aware of the dangers of secondhand smoke.
I also grew up in a household with 2 parents that smoked in the house and in the car. So did my grandfather and many of my aunts and uncles. Most people I know who still smoke step outside to do it, especially if there are children present.
From my own experience, I would say smoking in front of your children definitely raises the risk that they will smoke themselves. All 4 kids in my family smoked at some point and one of my siblings still does periodically. I stole my first cigarettes from my mom's purse!

Yes and hate it. I lived 2 blocks away from my cousin for 10 years and probably went there 2-3 times a hear because him and his wife are chain smokers and I'm allergic.

Of all the things some kids go through this would be the least of my concerns.....I think calling it child abuse is pretty drastic and uncalled for, but you are allowed to have an opinion just like me.....

someone i know does this. her and her husband smoke in the house and have a 5 year old and 2 year old. the mother is always taking the kids to the doctor since they are always sick. the 5 year old now has an inhaler since last year and the 2 year old always has a bad cough and chest cold. she doesn't think it's from her and DH smoking in the house....are you kidding me!

growing up both of my parents smoked indoors with me and my sister...fast fwd to today... I smoke my sister does not... DH smokes as well, however neither of us smoke in the house, we go outside for our cigarettes and if its really cold in the garage (its part of the house) and neither of us smokes in the car
PS: did not smoke through all 9 months of my pregnancy either
