Do you know anything about Williamsburg?
We are testing out the waters and looking in Park Slope and Billieburg....after spending the day in Park Slope, I think it's a bit young and Bohemian for me. I'm just not that cool. Anyway, we are going to look at some condos in Williamsburg this weekend...one is called Olive Park and it's on Maspeth. It's GORGEOUS. Not too large, 2 beds, 2 baths. Maybe 1,000 sq. feet but yoga, a pool, gym, private rooftop cabanas...the whole 9. I'm not sure this actual "section" is decent yet, though. Oliveparkcondos.com if you want to look...

I always thought that Williamsburg was more "young and bohemian" than Park Slope. I work with a lot of people who live in Park Slope and they love it. Many of them have families too.

Really? maybe both areas are nice and mixed; I guess I can't base this on what I saw in a day! However, we're looking at both areas....

That is my impression too- Park Slope seems to have more young families than Williamsburg.
The closest train to that address is the L, Graham Avenue.

Not many with young children, almost none at all, if having a family is what you envision soon.

Re: Do you know anything about Williamsburg?
I have lived in Park Slope my entire life.
It's honestly getting a lil too "bohemian" and less brooklyn for my taste, but I think Williamsburg is worse in that respect.
even on the other side of the "el"
sadly brooklyn is losing it's identity.
anywho, maybe you can bring the sexyback to Park Slope

I agree with everyone else in that Park Slope is more young families while Williamsburg is still trendy and cool. You could get run over by a Bugaboo in Park Slope on any given day but I rarely see moms with strollers in Williamsburg. I have been in Brooklyn for 10 years now - in Clinton Hill.

Re: Do you know anything about Williamsburg?
Williamsburg is more hipster than PS. You might like Windsor Terrace - more of a mix of people, very pretty, just one stop from PS.

This is what I always thought as well. I think Williamsburg has gone through a recent transformation because 10 years ago, you wouldn't want to live there. I see Park Slope as having a lot more "old money" and old school charm with the brownstones and terraces. I love PS.

Re: Do you know anything about Williamsburg?
We have friends who live in Williamsburg, its a great area Currently they are knocking down alot of the old out of date buildings and putting up really nice new ones, in the next year or so, I beleive all the buildings will be brand new I would say if you can buy there, buy now, those prices will only go up. FM for more info if you would like.

My cousins have lived and live in greenpoint/williamsburg for years and its great. The restaurants, convenience and proximity to the city cant be beat.
I love going to visit them, they live on Graham Ave which I belive is south of the expressway

Re: Do you know anything about Williamsburg?
Yeah, if you don't like the whole young hipster scene, Williamsburg probably won't be for you--it's even more so than Park Slope. Actually, if you look around the Metropolitan train stop, Williamsburg is a little different though. Lots of older Italian families living there--not as young.
Some other neighborhoods to consider are Windsor Terrace, Prospect Hts., and Clinton Hill. They are all lovely areas, but don't get that young, hipster crowd so much. Boerum Hill is great too, but $$$$.
Personally, I loved living in Bay Ridge, though it's pretty far into Brooklyn, and kind of suburban--I'm not sure that's what you would want.

Re: Do you know anything about Williamsburg?
don't forget, Ratner is building the new stadium in Prospect Heights (actually right around the corner from where I live now) so you'll have all that to content with.
and please remember...even though the price is high, it's not a suburban lala land. there IS crime.

I live about a mile and a half from Williamsburg (Long Island City) and we love going to lunch over there, or hanging out at the Brooklyn Brewery. Lots of hipsters though.

Re: Do you know anything about Williamsburg?
Williamsburg is very young and bohemian - more than PS I'd say. Williamsburg proper is beautiful. However, be VERY CAREFUL about what they're calling Williamsburg. Much of Greenpoint has now "become" Williamsburg...though the neighborhood is still very much Greenpoint
