Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
My good friend when I was younger had an unusual name. Her name is Tsahai, pronounced ta-hi. I believe it's the name of an African princess.

its so funny bc i never got why people looked at me funny when i said i was going to "santa's house"
My mother worked with a woman named Santa. I think she was a Santa because she was born on Christmas, I don't know if she was Italian.
I have an Aunt named Santa, she is very Italian

Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
I have had a bit of students with strange names to us, but normal to their culture. I had a Thai girl named Suriporn, porn seems to be really common in Thai words...
I then get lots of Koreans who give themselves English names. Some are regular names like Grace or Irene etc. I then had a student who called himself Kage after Nicolas Cage. But b/c of Korean pronunciation they added that extra syllabe and called himself Kag-gee. Currently I have a student that has renamed himself Kaka after the soccer player. I just can't say that word and call him by his Korean name. We get lots of Junko s from Japan. To me it sounds like Junkie. So many strange names to me.

Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
The spelling of my name is unique but the name itself is not. My sister's name is Rorie, which is a more unique name and is more commonly spelled Rory. Everyone in my immediate family has a name or a nickname that ends in "ie."

I had a student who was Sir. Apparently him mom gave him this so he would command respect whereever he went. Most of his friends called him by his middle name.

Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
I went to camp with someone whose last name was Chiapetta. Like Chia Pet. I know it's italian but his friends called him Chia.
My best friend's sister has a unique name. "Sarelle" -- it's not outrageous or anything but her mom made it up because she thought it was like Sara but "with a french twist to it"
I think it's pretty.
I also went to school with someone named Anuj -- he was indian but it means "a pain in the butt" in Yiddish.
Edit: I had a teacher whose name was Barbie. She was tall, blonde and gorgeous and looked like a Barbie doll. Maybe it was a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
These are the names of some former and current students in my school and I've taught several of them: Princess Diamond/Diamonds Sparkle Fendi Champagne Enjoli Maybelline Alize Unique and TONS more... and some very unique ethnic names that are quite lovely.
Truthfully, after a while, they don't seem so "odd" anymore.
