Do you have the instinct to react?

I do not. When things happen I tend to be the person who moves back and then when my brain clicks in I help out or react. My first instinct is not to react - I have a defense mode I guess. On the other hand, DH reacts immediately. The other day a guy was crossing the street in the rain and slipped before getting to the sidewalk. DH grabbed him under his arm right away and helped him up. I stood for a second and watched Chat Icon before helping. I notice it a lot. It's as if my brain has to register it before I can react whereas DH reacts before thinking. On buses and trains he's the same way - he reaches out to help people automatically. I wish I was more like that but I acknowledge that I am not. It's not that I don't want to help but I don't know, I guess I don't have that instinct.

Just wanted to know where everyone stood - how do you react?

Re: Do you have the instinct to react?

I know exactly what your talking about!!!!!!!! The other day I was walking alongside a friend of mine. I saw she was just about to step in a small puddle. Instinctively I knew she was going to slip because she had flip flops on and it was a polished surface. I also knew I didnt have time to say anything to her, so I quickly put my arm around her. She did slip, but I balanced her weight. She looked at me and said "how did you know I was going to fall?" I didnt even know what to say to her Chat Icon

Re: Do you have the instinct to react?

it always takes me a second to react, and I usually end up beating myself up about it because I didn't react quick enough.

Re: Do you have the instinct to react?

I wish I did. I always think of the greatest things to say after the fact. At the time when I need to react I can't. I think I get too nervous or excited or whatever the case may be. I've always admired people that can calmly react to different situations in an intelligent, straight forward way.

LOL - I do that too! I once told him to break up a fight in Washington Square Park and he looked at me like I was crazy.

But it depends on the situation. For some reason with kids, I'm quick, with other situations, I'm like a possum playing dead.

I am the same way as you. I wish I had quicker reaction time. It just takes a minute for whats happening to actually click in.

Re: Do you have the instinct to react?

Verbal reactions- it takes me awhile. Physical reactions are pretty immediate for me.
