Do you have a seafood or shellfish allergy?

If so, what are your symptoms?

The only one I am aware of is shrimp. I can eat it I just can't prepare it.
I made shrimp scampi once and while cleaning and preparing the uncooked shrimp, my hands swelled up and got really red and itchy. I just have to wear gloves to cook them now.

This is what happens to my youngest sister too. Her throat gets itchy and then starts to close up. But only when she eats fish. However tuna from the can is fine for her (go figure).

DH and his dad are both allergic to shellfish. I know my DH gets tingly in his mouth at first, then his tongue swells.

This is exactly me. I once made the mistake of touching my face while I was preparing shrimp and something got in my eye and it looked like I was punched. HOWEVER.. be warned this is often a pre-cursor to a full on allergy to eating shellfish. My dad's allergy got progressively worse from consuming shellfish. It started mildly and after years of eating shellfish, one day he had it and his whole body got this kind weird skin reaction and his throat constricted. It was pretty awful. He had to avoid it entirely after that.

Yes! My throat closes and I can't breathe. I carry an epi-pen with me at all times.

My DH is allergic. He starts weezing, has trouble breathing and sleeps for a long time afterwards.

Re: Do you have a seafood or shellfish allergy?

My dad and my DH are both allergic to shellfish. No shrimp, no lobster! I feel so bad eating it in front of him. They both get hives and their throat start to close.

There was one time ina restaurant that my DH ordered flounder franchese, and the waiter brought him shrimp francese by accident. He took one bite and said this doesn't taste like flounder. I tasted it, and it was shrimp. Luckily there was a pharmacy next door and I bought benadryl just in case. Even though he had a tiny bite. Now I always carry benadryl with me.

Re: Do you have a seafood or shellfish allergy?

throat closes and my ankles and wrists itch uncontrollably...not sure why though. I use to be able to tolerate tuna fish, but now even that sparks symptoms.
