Do you have a low BS tolerance with others?
If you have been through some serious life and death stuff in your life do you have a low BS tolerance?
For instance...if someone you know CONSTANTLY complains about their life, they are just miserable and you who have been through some serious shite CHOSE to be positive, can you listen to it? Honestly, I have such a hard time with this. I cannot be around it, I feel bad but not being around it is better than slapping the person.
Or when people complain constantly about their kids? I mean, BE THANKFUL you have kids!!!!!! UGH.
What are your thoughts on this? Do I just need to work on coming to a heightened state of enlightenment? or Do I have a right to be p!ssed that they are complaining about something that I perceive IS NOT a problem and clearly BS? I mean, you almost die or someone you love almost does and you recognize what a "problem" really is, KWIM?

Re: Do you have a low BS tolerance with others?
I think BS tolerance is subjective and relevant to each individual.
I think at some point we all think we've gone through something BIG but then someone else comes around and shows us that they're going through something even BIGGER.
So while we may think it's the end of the world someone else could look at our situation and say "that's a walk in the park, get over yourself!"
So while I think it's perfectly fine to be frustrated with someone who irritates you for always complaining about a seemingly minor problem; just think about that the next time you complain about something b/c someone else could be looking at you thinking the same thing.

SO True. Guess I need more time with a therapist, mediating or praying until I reach enlightenment and think...WWJD, I am just not there yet.
Basically, I have had it with one particular person in my family always complaining about NOTHING that is remotely major and it is to the point where I am about to loose it.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I have a low tolerance for BS because I believe: a- it almost always could be worse, so be thankful for what you have;
b- life is too short to sweat the small stuff (even if it does not seem small at the time)
c- no one else's hang-ups are going to get me down....KWIM?
(not to say that I am not a friend if someone has a real problem; just when people think that EVERYTHING is the end of the world, I tend to )

Oh trust me, Dina, it was SOOOOO much easier for me to type my response than for me to actually live it!
There are plenty of times I grapple with this myself and I try to remind myself that everyone is different and to them what they're going through is big for them.
But yeah there are times that I'm like "ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!"
So I feel your pain!!
But vent away whenever you feel like it!

Absolutely, and as I get older it gets worse
I can't stand to listen to people complain about the tiniest things
I understand that it may *feel like* its something big to them, but c'mon, get a grip!!!!!

Re: Do you have a low BS tolerance with others?
I have been involved in some pretty screwed up cr*p in my life and with my job I see and hear it daily BUT........I can not tolorate people that complain all the time and make everything something. To be honest, most of the time people just irritate me in general. I wonder often why I work in public saftey/health

The older I am, my tolerance for BS is decreasing. I have been walking away from a lot of people because they live in the land of BS.

Re: Do you have a low BS tolerance with others?
I said "other" b/c it really depends on who it is from and what their situation is. I always *try* to see the others person's POV and not assume that I really know what they have been delt. For example, I know I may complain about one thing, that is probably very small and really not Earth shattering, b/c I am masking what is really going on.

This is EXACTLY how I feel. Sad but true.
Maybe it is because I am getting older? wiser? Who knows? As hard as I try to see the other person's POV, I am finding more and more difficult if they live in the land of BS.
Thanks girls

Re: Do you have a low BS tolerance with others?
Doing what I do for a living has made me have a lower tolerance for people who really have no reason to complain about "little things".
I also get irritated with people who actually can do things to change/better their situation, but do nothing but complain and make everyone around them irritated!!!
I often find myself avoiding people like this, as well.
My DH on the other hand can be the biggest culprit of this and he can make me completely nutty!!!

Re: Do you have a low BS tolerance with others?
i have little tolerance for BS
HOWEVER, who am i to judge that something is "trivial" if it obviously is important to someone else. we all lead different lives, have different experiences and different priorities. it's not BS because i think it's BS if the person with the feeling believes it's a genuine complaint. i can't compare my personal experiences with theirs and say which is valid or more important. that's not being a good friend.
