Do You Ever Think

about how a BFP will change your life?? I don't mean in the HUGE sense of the responsibility for another life, but the more mundane sort of everyday stuff. I read the pregnancy board and it is full of girls with new BFPs who ask questions about CVS vs. amnio, ultrascreens, Level II sonograms, when MD visits switch to every two weeks to every week etc, and it makes me wonder. How many MD visits do you actually have after a BFP? How many co-pays is that? What if your MD says he wants you to have a sonogram and the insurance doesn't want to pay for it? Do you really have the time to appeal the decision?? With all the screening tests (ultrascreens, blood tests), is this something to do, or not to do? Will the results make you crazy or make you feel better? Are the diagnositic tests better? What would you do with a specific diagnosis? What does DH want to do with a specific diagnosis? Are you on the same page? Should you even be discussing this stuff while TTC, or should you wait until you're actually faced with making these decisions?

So, what do you ladies think about???

WOW, well now Im thinking of all that, Chat Icon Honestly never looked "long term" into it. I think of the added expense, another mouth to feed, dress, etc. But now when you lay it out, co-pays, test, labs. It is a bit much. But I guess it will all seem to balance somehow right? At least I hope so. Im really just taking it one step at a time. Glad DH didnt see this or I would relly loose him. Chat Icon

Re: Do You Ever Think

The fears are very real. There is a tremendous amount of information to absorb.

For myself, I have learned in a very short period of time that thinking about things (other than financial) in the long term in terms of TTC and parenthood are likely to drive me batty. I need to take things one step and one day at a time. My recent experience with diagnostic and reproductive surgery had me diagnosing myself as barren. It would a very rough couple of weeks for me and as a result, for DH. I simply have to figure out a way to make my future pregnancy tolerable and enjoyable or it will simply have a negative effect on my children.

All of this is of course easier said than done.

Well, having recently gotten a BFP, i can say that for me, not much has changed so far except that i am in a constant state of worry that I am going to MC. As far as co-pays, while I am normally charged a copay at the MD, i have not been charged any at the OB Chat Icon . Nor have i been charged for any bloodwork (yet).

As far as the screenings and what not, my husband and I had that conversation after the first OB appt. We agree about most things so the discussion lasted all of about 3 minutes. Now, if we get back bad results we will revisit the topic I'm sure, but for now, it's not that bad....

Re: Do You Ever Think

Yes... but fortunately my insurance only requires a co-pay for the first pre-natal visit, and if g-d forbid we have infertility issues, I have a regular co-pay for infertility meds and it covers up to $20,000 a year in infertility treatments. I know the $20,000 is not much in the world of infertility, but it does give me some peace of mind.

i didn't think about any of this. i was too focused on the BFP.

To be honest, I think that hurt me a bit. Once I got the BFP all the feelings RUSHED in like a tornado. I am still trying to deal with the life altering reality

Re: Do You Ever Think

I wish I had known more about things like cord blood banking, how the insurance handles a PG & the visits, and what to expect from the insurance & your job if there are complications that require more testing and treatments during PG. For example, I had to pay $200 out of pocket for Rhogam, because many insurances have it listed as an immunization for future pregnancies. For me, because of bleeding issues, I have a risk of my blood mixing with the baby's blood & poisoning the baby. My insurance did not care, and since it is a time sensitive shot I had 2 weeks to argue with them. So I had to pay OOP and now my Drs office is fighting to have my insurance reimburse me.

So I think it is good that you are thinking about these things now, because I wish I had more time before being PG to learn about them.
