Do you enjoy doing activites by yourself/alone?

Ok let me clarify

Can you go the movies by yourself, out to eat at a restaurant alone, go to a concert solo, take a vacation by yourself.....?

I consider myself a very independent person. I lived alone for quite a long time before I met/married DH, and I certainly do not need company constantly- I truly loooove my alone time. I can go to a movie alone, no biggie.

But the things I cannot do: I have NEVER been able to bring myself to go to a restaurant and eat alone, or travel solo. I cannot go to a concert or anything "interactive" by my lonesome.

I truly admire those who CAN do that, its so liberating I'm sure. I just feel so lonely and bored in those venues without someone to share it with




Edited to ADD: OH and when I said "travel alone" I do not mean to travel by yourself and visit people. I mean taking a VACATION where you know NOONE and being able to enjoy that. I have flown by myself to visit friends and travelled for work by myself, but to go to Europe to sightsee or an island solo - just coudln't do it

i have done the movies alone and gone out to lunch alone, not dinner or anything... i dont think i could vacation alone.

Yes I would travel alone I would eat Alone as far as concerts or movies NO (weird I know). But I prefer to do things alone

I've gone to the movies by myself and also to lunch, but never dinner. I would never be able to travel alone...I'd be too lonely. A good friend of mine has gone all over Europe by herself...I don't know how she does it, but it works for her.

I have gone out to lunch by myslef. At first it was really weird for me but I got used to it. Sometimes its actually nice

But the movies.. I don't think I could do that alone

I love being alone. I am very independent and have considered myself to be alone most of my life. HOWEVER I wouldnt go to a movie alone or eat out in a restaurant besides a McDonalds type place. As for traveling, I could do that.

I often eat alone, but only at some places. I would probably feel uncomfortable eating at a really nice restaurant by myself, but I do it all the time at places like Panera, pizzarias, diners, etc. Sometimes I have a book or a magazine to read while I wait for my food. I have traveled alone just a few times, but usually just for a weekend. I don't know if I could do a week long vacation alone, unless I was doing some visiting of family or friends during some of the time.

I love going to movies by myself. I used to teach and would go on half days or days off, when the theater was practically empty. No one talks to me or annoys me during the movie when I go alone. I got spoiled and now can hardly ever go on a Friday or Saturday night.

Good question...the truth is I have no idea. I don't prefer to be alone, but I will do something alone before not doing it at all.

I have never had my own room before, ever...for 14 years I even shared a bed with one of my sisters.

If I want to go to the beach, and no one wants to go, then I will go. Same with the movies. I meet people really easily, so I think if I were to vacation solo, I would have a group of newly found friends, which then I would not be alone anymore, so I don't know.

I want to go to the Bronx zoo this weekend and DH is working, and no one wants to go(my siblings are zoo hating vegans) so I think I will go by myself. DH does not like it at all. He is a safety in numbers kind of guy.

I dont like being alone at all.
Maybe because I love to talk to anyone about anything but I have never done any of those things alone.

my sister travels all over by herself. She says that her friends weigh her down and she has to compromise her time. as a matter a fact, today she is on a greyhound traveling to a Washington rainforest to see if she can stay there for a few months. she is a little extreme with it.

My other sister lives in Philadelphia by herself. no family, but she found a great teaching job. she does EVERYTHING solo. movies, dinners...

the one place I hate to be solo is church. That was one thing that bothered me so bad when I was in school in Florida. DH always offers to go with me, but a lot of the time he is working. I feel so alone in the pew. It brings me back and makes me miss my childhood. All nine of us in a pew, wearing matching dresses as my sisters.

I've had lunch alone several occasins.


But i don't think i would feel comfortable going to the movies alone or traveling alone.....its just not natural for me to enjoy these type of venues by my lonesome self.

I've gone to the movies by myself and sometimes have done lunch by myself - pizza, deli, etc.

I don't think I would be able to vacation by myself, though I give a lot of credit to people who do. I think it would be exciting to meet new people, but I would want to share my experiences with DW and/or friends.

No I couldnt go to eat or the movies alone but I do LOVE my alone time...reading a book or putting my photos in an album, stuff like that.

I've never been one to need other people to do things with me (I have friends that won't go as far as Target without someone there with them). Traveling for work makes you do quite a few things alone you never would have thought. I have eaten in very nice restaurants alone, had some wine, brought a book and people watched - I loved it! I have also gone to movies alone and eaten lunch alone. I haven't ever done a baseball game or concert alone but I can't say that I definitely wouldn't. And, as far as traveling, I've never booked a complete vacation by myself but I've stayed on in cities after work trips for a few days at a time and traveled around them by myself (last year alone, I did this in Oxford UK and Stockholm Sweden). I don't think I could do more than a few days though, I was getting bored.

Oh - and on those trips, I've been to bars by myself too. I wouldn't go out clubbing or anything and I was always careful not to stay out too late for fear of some man following me back to my hotel but I'd go and have a drink with my book and watch some sports or whatever happens to be on. Doesn't bother me I guess.

I forgot to mention.....I love to shop alone! I feel like I get dragged around or tied down to certain stores or departments when I am with other people. I would much rather go alone.

Funny, a concert alone is one thing I have done!! (and I guess eaten lunch out alone but I can't remember a dinner).

I like my days off to be alone. I feel like I get more done but thats pretty much it.

I like my alone time. I'm one of those people who NEED to shop alone. I have eaten alone. I also really enjoy going to a park or taking a walk by myself.. But that is really the extent of it, no big trips or concerts and things alone.
