do they slow down eating? 7-9months

AJ has always had a clockwork type of eating habit. Every 3hours without fail she’d get cranky for a bottle. I could push it sometimes for about a half hour if she was entertained, distracted or in the bath.

Lately though, she’s been sort of ‘bleh’ about the bottle at 3hours. She only gets into it when SHE wants to eat. If she takes the bottle at all she’ll eat about an ounce then push it away or get annoyed. She’ll sit and play, talk, etc for awhile then go back to the bottle in a half hour or so. If I’m lucky she’ll finish it then, if not she’ does the same, eat, then pause and goof off, then finish her food. It ends up taking an hour to feed her (mostly less than that but definitely not the 5-10mins it used to take her to devour her food).

She’s eating about 6ounces a feeding but has occasionally been hungrier for more, when she is hungry. But if she leaves some behind and an hour passes I can’t serve her the rest. So we’ve been wasting food. The other times she’s so hungry, she’ll finish off her 6oz and in within two hours she’s crying for more and finishes off another 4 oz.

She’s 8months old.. (9months old next Friday).
No teeth
Yes, she eats puréed foods
She eats snacks like Cheerios too
Id say she averages about 30-40oz in a day

Do you think it’s a growth spurt?
Anyone experience this?
Is she supposed to get more to every 4hours instead of 3?

DS is the same way. i spoke to my ped about it and he said we were trying to feed him too much Chat Icon

DS was getting about 28 oz. a day from 5 months on. sometimes more, like 32 oz. the ped said he only needs between 18 and 24 oz now! so we give DS 3 bottles a day now, the first is 8 oz. and the other two are 7 oz, plus jarred food and table food, and he seems content.

What table food are you giving him?

I am so afraid to reduce the oz. b/c DD is sleeping 11 hours at night, I feel like when she gets less she wakes up! Did you notice that? Chat Icon

Re: do they slow down eating? 7-9months

DS was 8 months yesterday and cut a bottle out this weekend.
He now gets:
bottle 6 am. 6-8 oz
breakfast 9 am. cereal/jar of fruit
Bottle 11/12 pm. 6-8 oz
Lunch 1:30 - yogurt/jar of fruit or veggie
Dinner - 5:30 - meat/veggie puree/ jar of fruit
Bottle 7 pm 6-8 oz
Most of the bottles are 6 oz though. I cut it out when I noticed he really was refusing it. First I thought it was the nipple, so I upped him to medium nipples. Then we realized it was amt. of bottle. Since we have done that he has done better with taking the bottle.

Re: do they slow down eating? 7-9months

Myself and my ped like to joke that DS has been on a 15 month growth spurt! His eating didnt slow down until recently. He started walkign at 10 months but still enjoyed eating at that point, but once hte nice weather started he started to lose intrest in eating. He still has his 3 meals but those are smaller than before and his snacking (especially on nice days) is less and he could skip a bottle if we are busy. Which for him is HUGE@

Oh yea, maybe around 9 or 10 months I did start pushing his bottles to more like 4 hours because he was eating baby food and some table food and I was worried that it was too much!
