Disney's Hilton Head
We have been given the opportunity to use DVC points and are thinking about heading to Hilton Head for a vacation. We've heard great things about it, but have never been. Can anyone give us any ideas on things to do or any tips? Our DS is 2. Thanks!

Re: Disney's Hilton Head
I've never been at the DVC property...BUT LOVE LOVE LOVE Hilton Head. We vacation there typically every year. My kids are now 5 1/2 & 3. So kids friendly & fun.....including the restaurants.
There is even a kids play/museum in case it rains (but luckily we've never needed it)
We've done dolphin watch cruises.
Let me know what you're needing info for.

Thanks ladies! My specific questions are what family friendly activities are there to do, any rest stop recommendations along the way (especially kid-friendly), and restaurant recommendations!

Re: Disney's Hilton Head
We typically go to with the kids... Crazy Crab (Harbor Town, which we LOVE) Old Oyster Factory (kids get free t-shirt, I typically print the coupon prior in case) Skillets Cafe Hudson on the Docks Guiseppe's Pizza I hear great things about Skulls Creek. (we had a great house rental this last year, with our own pool, so did a lot of grilling & not much eating out...was actually more enjoyable than showering & rushing with the kids)
There are fancier places, but when with the kids we go casual!
Sandbox is the kids place, but never been
I hear Fat Baby's Pizza is good BUT you need to order in advance, & We never have as a result.
When are you going, cause down here kids are going or are back in school, so I'm sure it's less crowded there. If it's peak time, you want to try & time arriving to HHI earlier, cause there is one way on/off & can be traffic.
You can rent chairs, bikes, etc if you don't want to bring it all down, do a google there are tons of companies.
The sand is so hard there & no rocks, you can actually bring strollers or bikes onto the beach. Everything is bike friendly, paths everywhere.
I live in NC, so I can't help much with rest stops driving down.
There is Harris Teeters, fresh market, target, I think walmart, & SAMs club all there too. Bring GPS, because they have an ordinance to maintain the landscape beauty, so you won't see obnoxious signs for the stores, can be a little tricky at first if you don't have addresses.
Blufton & Charleston you can drive to too.
Hope this helps.

Re: Disney's Hilton Head
My ILs live in HHI - we go down at least 2X a year (but from Maryland, not NY)
For rest stops on 965 - smithfield is a great place. It is 5 hours from HHI. Zaxbys is a great fast food chicken place, there is also a checkers, cicis, mcdonalds, etc. It is not a rest stop, but an area RIGHT off the highway. (not too many "rest stops" along 95 like the Turnpike rest stops)
If you go during the summer, you have to go to Harbor Town at night and see Gregg Russell. The kids LOVE him. He sings under the big oak tree every night.
Restaurants, one of my favorites is The Boat House at Skull's Creek. Great outside deck/bar.
For something not touristy, not crowded but very yummy, Ruan Thai. GREAT place.
Amigos is great for burritos.
Sandbox is a ton of fun for the kids to play at if the weather isn't good. There is a toddler area, but my kids really started enjoying it when they were closer to 3, but the 2 year old will definitely like it.
There is also a jump place right off island.
HHI is great. Lots of fun. And the beaches are fabulous.
Have fun!

Disney's Hilton Head
We love HHI! Have been to the Sandbox and the bounce place (not on the actual island) and both are great. For restaurants, our absolute favorite is Truffles. We usually also eat Aunt Chiladas and the Japanese hibachi place (can't remember the name). Last year we had drinks at a new wine bar and a few years ago we visited the HH winery which had a happy hour with snacks. Mostly we just go to the beach during the day and dinner at night. We usually go to Coligny Plaza at least once for ice cream. It is such a wonderful family friendly place :)
