Are there set days for each park that opens early so you can plan your FPs and dining around that?

Yes, there are set days. Each day one park will open early or stay open later for resort guests. You can get a list of the park hours when you check in or see the online calendar
disney park hours

I actually changed one of our days in WDW to the day they open earlier.

It also gives us a break in between to lounge at the pool or plan another outing in Orlando.

Re: Disney tips

Some more questions:

I loathe backpacks. Can you recommend a good cross-body bag (not super expensive....as I probably won't use much).

I did pick up something at Wal-mart but I'm not crazy about it.

Also, does the resort let in guests to hang by the pool? We have some friends in Florida who have invited us to hang out with them, but no way are we giving up precious vacation time to drive 2 or 3 hours south and back which is where they all live. Chat Icon

OP...lots of views on fast passes...we've done a lot of research on various websites to find what worked best for us and get strategies for the best use based on our needs. I would look around and see how it works best for you. We always use one for Peter pan because it's a must do for us and the line is crazy long all the time. Some people probably say it's not worth it though.

We always FP Peter Pan. DD loves it, and there is no way I'm waiting on that line!!

Try to find a sale pattern of lesportsac. I know they are a little costly but last forever and weigh nothing. They are so durable,so incredibly comfortable slung over your shoulder, and generally roomy.

Thanks!

I actually had some time to kill in Target earlier and found exactly what I was looking for. Same kind of material too as Le Sportsac.

Disney tips

another tip that I've learned:

If you arrive to an attraction to use your FastPass+ reservation and the standby line is short, get into the standby line and open your phone to try to change your FastPass+ reservation to something else.

Re: Disney tips

So I have another question:

I planned 2 days at WDW (not back to back) and 2 days at the resort. Now I'm second guessing myself that this will be too much downtime.

Thinking of adding Animal Kingdom as our first day at the parks since they have a dinosaur area, and canceling T-Rex. Plus they are open 9-5 so that gives us the late afternoon to relax by the pool. We will hit the park at opening.

I've heard pros and cons of AK and that its very hot, often animals are hidden sleeping, etc.

We are checking into the resort on a Sunday and I didn't plan WDW for Monday as research shows it's super busy for most tourists making this their first day....

Not interested in any other park really, or going off site....

Definitely do Animal Kingdom.

There's plenty to do at most resorts, especially if you resort hop, but I would still do it especially because that still leaves you the evening at minimum to relax.

Regarding the crowds at the parks, that logic applies in general more to Magic Kingdom, which most people head to first. However, I wouldn't even bother with generalizations - check out easywdw.com for crowd calendars. He'll tell you by specific date which parks are recommended and which are not. We used him for two trips and found him to be on the money.

Re: Disney tips

Thanks for your rec. Ended up adding extra day at AK.

Also went to your site rec as well and it showed Disney would be bad first Monday there so this is perfect day to go...actually recommended AK on that day.

I also called Disney dining and they gave me # to Trex so I was still able to get a reservation there for night of check-in.

Re: Disney tips

yikes!
Leaving in 8 days (driving).

Basically just need to pack but anyone have any last minute tips?

I'm afraid of overlooking something LOL.

Dealing with pet stuff this weekend (taking dog to vet, getting meds just in case for kennel).

Making extra key for FIL to check on house while we are away....

Will pick up snacks and wine during week....

So excited.

We actually know two other couples down there same week.

We know making plans at park will be next to impossible but said one night will try to meet up at resort for drinks.

Definitely bring a bunch of disposable ponchos and a stroller cover if you have a stroller (or just throw a shower curtain liner over it). It rains every single afternoon this time of year.

Re: Disney tips

Just wanted to bounce this back up since I just got back.

My biggest tip is to get to the parks early.

Like others mentioned, we got so many rides done this way and were able to get a break back at the pool.

I also recommend bringing to wear what you are normally comfortable in, especially in the heat.

I loathe shorts and never wear them but bought a bunch for Disney. Guess what? I never wore them so they are going back to the store for a refund.

I found I was most comfy in tight yoga capris and tanks and long flowy loose cotton pants and maxis at night.

Re: Disney tips

Thanks for the tips! Going the week after Thanksgiving and so excited! One FP question:

We going with my two sons (1.5 and 4.5 yo) and plan to do the baby swap thing. If my DH gets a fast pass for Peter Pan and him and my 4.5 yo old son do the ride, will I also need to do FP for Peter Pan? I'm wondering if we could possibly get more bang for our FP if we each did 3 DIFFERENT rides? Is that possible? I've never gone with kids before.

From what I understand, child swap is only for rides where a child cannot ride (height restriction) so Peter Pan doesn't have that option (and my 1 year old loves that ride!)

here is good information on it and how to use it the best way...http://wdwprepschool.com/how-to-child-swap-at-disney-world/

Re: Disney tips

Didn't want to start a whole other thread, so I figured I'd ask on here:

Do the Deluxe resorts ever go on sale? Is it good to wait close to the 30 day mark to try again?

We just did the bounce back so I booked POR again, and are getting the free dining plan.

I called today though because one of my goals is to stay at the Poly.

It is about a $1400 difference.

I may consider if it is a $1k difference because we are still on the fence about flying next year and know that money can be spent there.

Also has anyone stayed at the Poly? Would you recommend?

ETA: I also have the Disney visa. I read on another board sometimes in the new year they discount room packages thru this....nothing super clear though :)

Yes, the Deluxe resorts do go on sale so just keep checking the rates.

The Poly is one of my favorite resorts. We used to stay there all the time when I was a kid and when I started going on my own as a adult.

DH and I just went back at the end of April and stayed at one of the new Poly DVC rooms.

There are a few changes, but all in all, the Poly is a great place to stay with very convenient transportation options.
