Disney Photopass question...
we are going to disney this week & i have the option of purchasing a cd in advance for $100 which would include any & all pics taken by their photographers. my question is, do you think it's worth it?i really don't want to bring my SLR with me & i'm thinking this might be a good way to get the "really good" pics of my kids...
any advice would be appreciated! tia

Re: Disney Photopass question...
they told me that all the jpegs are on the cd & the rites to print the pics wherever you'd like (snapfish, shutterfly, etc...) if i could only order from the disney site, i def. wouldn't do it b/c their prices are kind of high...

I actually have never purchased those pics from them that were taken. You'll definitely want to bring some kind of camera to take your own pics because the pics they take are not going to be the best pics. And the pics they take are only standing in front of something big and with the characters. No candid, personal shots at all.

YES, we buy the CD every year. They always get tons of great family shoots. I also bring my own SLR for the character dinners and such since the pro photographers arent in there taking the pics. $100 is a discounted price because last yr it was $149 or something like that. You do get all the rights to the pics PLUS you can edit or add borders or text to the pics online before finalizing the cd.

Do I need to get 1 per family, or if there is 8 of us all traveling together can we just buy 1? and keep giving them the same number or whatever we need to give them for when they need to know its for us?
Also... is there a limit of how many pics you can take?

Re: Disney Photopass question...
I think you will get different answers. We have done it the past two trips and both times came home with about 300 photos. So for us it was worth it and they got some cute shots. It was nice b.c I didn't have to constantly give my camera to others to get family shots. They also got some better shots and the character meet and greets that we didn't get - or we could enjoy the meet and greets with the girls and not have to be fiddling with the camera constantly (I just bring my video camera and my point and shoot).
We were there this week last year and a 5x7 was $14.95 for one photo. With the CD you get as many photos as you take. If you get it you just have to make sure you take advantage of their services (they are also sometimes at the hotels - we got some shots at the Poly pool of DD#1 on our 1st trip with her). Our last two trips I averaged 300-350 photos.
Here are a couple from our trip last trip which was this week in 2010 - I would be more than happy to let you see more if you want to FM me.

Yes they give you a letter saying that the photos are yours to do with them as you wish.
They also have ways to add borders, crop your photos etc.

Renee make sure you tell them that it is your birthday - note it on your reservation. We went this week last year (5/15-5/23). DD#2 turned 1 our last full day of the trip. She got a card from Mickey, a balloon and a special photopass - that offers you 20% off when you come home on one order- I did the CD before we went and then ordered 2 mugs for father's day and there was some additional discount so it wasn't that expensive.
If you go over to Disboards they usually have a link there for the $99 preorder special. They used to have another package that included the CD AND a photo book for $149 - but honestly you can do the photobook for cheaper with one of the other places - shutterfish etc.

This is not true. There are an abundance of photographers in the park that will take your pic anytime you ask and swipe your photopass card. Hula hooping on mainstreet, in the Rose Garden, eating an ice cream, etc. The majority of them come out lovely and much better than a point and shoot camera.

we gave all our photo pass people our SLR camera as well after they took our picture with their camera! So we got all the same shots (for free) from them anyway!

They will give you a photpass card. You need to give each photographer this card prior to them taking the pics. They link all your pics to this card. I dont think there is any limit. Our last CD had over 200 images on it.

Re: Disney Photopass question...
I lost my camera in Disney 2 months ago, so we wound up using the photo pass people and buying the CD. I think I got a $25 coupon so it wound up costing $125. If you're not sure, you can wait to see the pictures for the extra $25.
I thought the pictures they took were good, plus we were able to get family shots without handing a random person our camera. But they weren't always around when I wanted them of course, so def bring your own camera too.

Re: Disney Photopass question...
We do it everytime! Great professional quality, and no stress about getting the shots. We end up with about 300 pics each time, and add nice borders and extras to the pics. We actually knew someone that was going at the same time so we split the cost of 1 cd so we got all the pics for like $50. They dont mind, just use the same card # and they all go on the cd. You get the cd, and rights to all pics!

Re: Disney Photopass question...
Honestly, I took MUCH better pics that the photopass people.
I SALVAGED 2 pics to order from them. And that was after MAJOR cropping. I am so glad I did not order a package. The pics of DS with Mickey... completely blurry! I mean, WTH! Like our neck/head at the bottom of pics and a giant pic of the castle on the top 3/4 of the pic. Like a 4yo taking a pic. It was unsalvageable.
I was able to crop 2 of their pics to say that I ordered their pics. Out of over 75 pics. ONLY 2.
Yet, I see people with great pics from them.

I don't know if there is a limit of the number of pics, but we had a lot. We had 11 people total on our trip - 3 different families with 3 different photo passes. In the end, I went to a photo pass booth and asked them to put all the pictures from all the different cards on one (my) photo pass. That way you only need to pay for one CD.
ETA: to answer to OP, in our case, it was definitely worth it. We got so many great family shots. We were a big family though. If you think you'll be diligent with asking for pics, then it's totally worth it.
