Re: Disney in the summer?

We always go in the last week of August, right before school goes back in NY. Airfare is cheap, parks are empty. It's hot, but the heat doesn't bother us or my kids at all. For us, it's worth it to have the parks be so empty. We also love that we can use a timeshare week at great resorts that week and get a very large unit without any problem.

If you don't mind the sweltering heat and humidity!!! I did it once as a teenager and I thought I was going to die... Never went during the summer again.... If you can tolerate the heat and can take a lot of breaks then it is fineChat Icon

Re: Disney in the summer?

I would not go in the summer!

We are looking to go in late april/early May and the flights prices are not bad at all.

Maybe you can stay at a cheaper hotel?

I wouldn't, we're in Tampa now and went to the zoo yesterday. We were all hot and it was barely 85 with no humidity.

I've went in June and it wasn't bad. The parks were not crowded. It may have been before ny schools were out though.

Re: Disney in the summer?

We've been in August several times, in fact we are going this year. I'm not going to lie, it's hot. But compared to the crowds at other times of the year, it's considerably less crowded. Florida kids go back at the beginning of August. Many of the attractions are inside in the AC and the ones that are not, they have misters going to keep the people online cool. It is doable if you are willing to take breaks and take it slow.

Re: Disney in the summer?

Are you staying on site? If so, you can always go for a little while in the morning, go back to the hotel for a while during the middle of the day and then go back in the afternoon and stay for the night parades/shows.

Also, while in the parks, you can ask for cups of ice from any place that serves soda and they will give it to you. You can then either wait for it to melt or find a water fountain and fill it there. Much better then buying water bottles!!

I've been there 2x in the middle and the end of August. It's hot and sticky but like others have said, the crowds aren't horrible, and there is lots of a/c around.

Re: Disney in the summer?

we went in the summer but at the time we did not have kids.

It was def HOT! But they had misting areas and we dealt.

Not sure what it would be like with kids.

Personally if we were going back with our kids I would do it in the summer. I am a teacher and that is the best time for me and yes the airfare is so much more affordable.

So if it was me I would go. We plan on going in 2 years with the boys and the summer it is going to have to be.

I'm a teacher too and we are going right after school ends. It's our first trip as a family. We are just planning on taking it slow when necessary and going back to the hotel to swim at the height of the heat each day. its the only time we can do it, i would rather go and be a bit hot than not have the experience. We just started planning our trip, it is so exciting!!

We went in June and the crowds were fine (it was before school let out up here though)

The weather was GORGEOUS! No humidity. We had one REALLY hot day, but it was perfect. We didnt even need sweatshirts at night!

Re: Disney in the summer?

It's very hot but doable --if it rains a little it's perfect. It cools down a little and there will be fewer crowds and waits :)

We are going this April break-- we jot got flights last Saturday -- 290 per person round trip, non-stop, out of newark. You can get decent prices on flights if you keep checking -- flight prices change every couple of hours.

No way in holy h-e-l-l would I EVER do Disney in the summer again. We did it as kids and it was just horrible. The whole trip was miserable. It was over 100 degrees every day, insane humidity, and the lines were OUT OF CONTROL. I lived in FL for four years too and we avoided the parks in the summer at all costs. For the money you spend on Disney I would NOT chance crazy crowds and insane heat. There are so many other better times to go where the temps are beautiful and the crowd are non-existent.

We went last year mid-September (we usually go 2nd week of December) and I found it unpleasant as far as the temp/humidity.

We went during this week the year before last. PERFECT time to go if you are set on the Summer! There was no humidity too.

Also, get some mister fans from Walmart, they are a life saver!

We've been doing this for the last eleven years! (We love Disney and own DVC) It's the very best time to visit Disney. Just be sure to leave before Labor Day weekend.

We went in June for our honeymoon and it was unbearable. We took a road trip a few years ago in August and while it was hot, it was actually hotter in NY than it was in Florida the week we were there. We were in the pool a lot and paced ourselves.

Re: Disney in the summer?

We did it the last week of June last year and I think we lucked out because it was low 90's as opposed to high 90's and cloudy most days.

I was prepared. I had fans for both strollers. COld washcloths to cool them down. Spray bottles to spritz. You'd be surprised how many spots are Air Conditioned.

The kids were 4 yo and 4 months.

We go in the summer every year. Yes it's hot, but it's doable. DH even plays golf, he just goes early in the morning.

I am so glad I came across this thread! I have never been to Disney, but my husband is the biggest Disney fanatic ever! When his father was alive he would go for a month at a time, that obsessed! We were talking about going this year, and we were thinking August. I also heard in August you can get really cheap/free dining plans! I think we are going to pull the trigger and book it!!!
