Disney help?
We just booked our flights and we will not be getting into our hotel (staying at the the art of animation) until about 3:00. Im not getting park tickets for that day. So we thoughts we would just hang out by the pool and than do dinner. What else could we do to make the first day to make it special?
Also can we still book a character dining even though we don't have park passes. Sorry for the likely dumb question I've never been.

Disney help?
Maybe going to downtown Disney, now known as Disney Springs, walking around, and having dinner at the T-rex place, or rainforest café or something. My kids LOVED just walking around Disney Springs. You can book dinner with Mickey at the contemporary resort, you don't need park passes for that. I am not sure if there's any other character dining outside of the actual parks but if you do dining inside one of the parks you do need a park pass.

Re: Disney help?
How old are your kids? I find the travel day exhausting and like to just chill, but my kids are all 5 and under.
If yours are older, I second the Disney Springs idea. Lots of great restaurants and they can get a head start on souvenir shopping Plus the Ghiradelli ice cream place there is delish!

You can't enter the parks without tickets. You can book a character dinner at one of the resorts:
1900 Park Fare (Grand Floridian): Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters
Chef Mickey's (Contemporary) Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie, and Pluto
Mickey's Backyard BBQ (Fort Wilderness) Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, and Dale
ETA: 1900 Park Fare for dinner is our favorite!

Re: Disney help?
On our arrival day we ALWAYS go to Disney Springs, the Marketplace feels so magical and fun that it really gets us in the Disney spirit right from the start. We usually have dinner and then walk around, shop, and play. Last time we had dinner at T-Rex, the kids LOVED it so we're going back there for dinner on our May trip.
You can also have a character dinner in one of the resorts. 1900 Park Fare at the GF, Ohana at Poly, Mickey's Backyard BBQ ar Ft. Wilderness, etc.
