Disney: BLT vs. BWV

I have F&W booked for a week at BLT in October. BLT is our home and this will be our first DVC stay.

I actually love EPCOT and since it's the place to be, I was thinking of trying to switch to BWV at the 7mm. It would actually be about 48 points fewer for the week.

I'm sort of on the fence though because since it's our first stay I kind of want to go to our "home" resort, and it would also be nice to be able to walk home from MK, especially after MNSSHP. And access to EPCOT will be fine on the monorail,. but we've never been to the Boardwalk area and at all and it would be nice to be able to just walk over the WS to get some stuff from F&W. We're not huge drinkers, so stumbling home isn't part of the plan either way.

The 48 points we save could go toward a short trip at another time either this year for SWW or for the Princess half next year, or help us have to borrow less of 2014's points for the trip to Aulani we're hoping to take in 2013.

We havea LV studio booked at BLT. we're be trying for a Boardwalk view or even a standard view studio at BWV.

Re: Disney: BLT vs. BWV

Would you recommend a split stay?

is it worth the trouble?

ETA: I'm also thinking in terms of the points. I always think of points as being worth $10 each, so I am thinking "Wow, BLT is costing us $480 more" And in past trips when we stayed at Pop foer example, I was not willing to pay an extra $480 to stay at POFQ instead, so why am I being so extravagant with points.

I guess i better get used to using a lot of points since my home is BLT

I totally get your dilemma about choosing your home resort or staying close to EPCOT. BW is my home resort so I have been there tons of times and just love the location. At the same time, I want to check out BLT b/c I've never stayed at a monorail resort.

I have done split stays a few times - it's not that much trouble. I don't find it a big deal to pack up since you are basically taking everything. Bell services will move your bags free of charge. The only problem is you are homeless during the day. You can check in and all that jazz any time during the day but it's hard to say when your room will be available - especially the BW during F&W if that's the 2nd resort.

I understand the desire to stay at your home resort, however, during F&W - I would always suggest staying at either Boardwalk or Beach Club. DH and I just came back from a week at the Beach Club and it was so nice to "pop" in to Epcot for a cocktail or dinner.

During food and wine, this is a major plus!

You have 50 years to enjoy your home resort.

Good point!

I think I am going to try.

I don't even know what time MS opens in the morning, do you?

The rooms in BLT are gorgeous, but for F&W I would definitely pick Boardwalk. And you'll literally need to call that day (the 7 month mark) because they will be gone during F&W.

It's so convenient to walk back to the Boardwalk after EPCOT. And the Boardwalk is pretty much central to everything! Have fun!

I'm going to give it a try. I've heard Studios are easier to get at the 7mm. I'll call at 9am and try my luck!

Definitely go for the Boardwalk, but your chances are slim to non to get it during F&W 7 mos. out. But get on the wait list and cross your fingers!! Staying at BW during F&W is on my "to do" list. Staying at every WDW resort is on there too!

I'm going to try. if it doesn't come through, I still have BLT.

I was trying to convince DH to do SSR for price reasons, but I am so glad we did BLT. Amazing to have the guarantee of somewhere on the monorail

We stayed at Saratoga once and didn't like it much. It doesn't compare to BLT at all!!

i wish we bought into ssr - we would have saved a good amount!!! we bought into blt and haven't had an issue booking at other resorts at all!(all within a couple of months of going!)

to the OP - depends on how long you go i would split it. were going for 10 days and splitting it just so we can hit 2 resorts
