Dishwashers

Hey Everyone,
So our dishwasher is offically broken (as per the repairman). So I went on consumer reports and found the best one in our size range in our price range. Does anyone have the:
Whirlpool DU1100XTP[Q]

Also, we were going to get it in white but later on down the road do you think white appliances could hurt the resale as appose to stainless steel? Right now the stove is white & fridge is almond. We would like to get a new fridge in time and we were going to stick with all white (because its easy to keep clean and it doesn't show streaks like stainless). THoughts???

Re: Dishwashers

I would go stainless.

In all the houses we've been seeing that have white appliances, the first thing I've noticed is a yellowy tint to them. I think that just comes with age.

but wouldn't it make more sense for everything to match rather than have some white & some stainless?

Yellowy tint? What do you mean?

Re: Dishwashers

If you plan on changing the fridge in the future, then I would go with stainless or the black. Personally I like the black bc you don't see the streaks like in stainless.

Even though right now your kitchen will have different colors, in the long run, everything will match. I think that people don't really prefer the white anymore

Re: Dishwashers

Hey Kerry!

I agree on the yellowy tint thing. We saw a gorgeous house in NC that was really nice, but the kitchen looked VERY dated. All of the appliances were white, and they had yellowed with age. I was automatically turned off, because I knew that I'd have to replace the appliances ASAP.

Stainless can be a pain, but it's something you might want to look into.

see this is my big delema, I prefer white myself but I don't want my likes to hurt us later down the road. I really don't like black and I know stainless is annoying to keep clean (DH and I spent 8 years in the resturant business and we both hate stainless because it reminds us of those days).

I'm so confused....

Re: Dishwashers

I had white and didn't see any yellowing. We went with black this time as I didn't want to deal with the fingerprints of stainless steel.

Re: Dishwashers

we got the stainless "look" one that does not smudge

Our fridge and stove are white and we eventually want them all to match

I was reading about this but its about $100 more. Is it really worth it. I'm still not sure. My DH doesn't care as long as it works.

Personally, stainless appliances would not be a deal-breaker on any house I was interested in buying. We have all white appliances and they have not discolored. Our dishwasher and fridge are older than the stove and they all look the same.

Re: Dishwashers

Our appliances are white, and they all look the same shade of white, and they are all relatively old. No yellowing at all. Maybe it's from smokers in the house?

There is a current thread: Keeping stainless fingerprint free that says that WD-40 on the stainless keeps it smudge-free for long periods of time.

Re: Dishwashers

yea, I've thought about it and I'm still going to get white. I like white and find it the easiest to keep clean and this way everything matches. Plus, we keep the place clean and we live in it. We plan to do over our cabinets & floors eventually so that will spruce it up a bit. Thanks for all the advice.

If you've spent as much time as I have in the resturant business you'd hate stainless steel as well. hehehe

Re: Dishwashers

When DH and I were microwave shopping, we went with white cause our new appliances (frig and dishwasher) are white. We looked at black and S/S but they were up there in prices.

I'd go with the white to match the rest of the appliances you have.

I personally don't care what color appliances are - as long as they work!
