disability leave?
first time in this kind of situation so any direction on where to start would be great.
i will be out on maternity for 2 to 3 months from my job. i am an hourly employee with no benefits so will not be getting paid from my work while out. what are my options? can i collect disability? what is the fmla? will most likely be havng a c-section. i have to start some research obviously but i wanted to first ask here since everyone has so much information and advice it seems :)
TIA!

Re: disability leave?
I don't get paid either while I'm out and I'm going on disability (which is like a measly $160 per week). I'm also having a cs so 8 weeks. I'm tacking on my vaca time before it b/c I need to use it first. I believe FMLA is also unpaid. Your best bet is to contact your HR dept for paperwork. Then you bring it to your OB to fill out.

Re: disability leave?
FMLA protects your job for up to 12 weeks for a leave. there is no money associated, but there are certain criteria that must be met in order to be eligible. YOu can collect disability, but it is a small amount. Definetely speak with HR, and see what you are eligible for. Goodluck.

There are requirements with FMLA so definitely talk to HR about it. They will also tell you what is company policy (must use vacation time, personal time, etc.) and will give you the info for state disability. Disability is 6 weeks for natural delivery and 8 weeks for c/s.

FMLA is only applicable if you work for an employer with more than 50 employees. it just protects you from being fired for taking maternity leave. if you have a CS you can get 8w of STD based on your company policy.

To be eligible for FMLA, employees must have worked at least 12 months and for 1,250 hours...basically 24 hours a week or more.
