Dinner

Do you make just enough or too much?

I'm a big fan of leftovers for lunch, so I try to make too much. But then sometimes DH seems extra hungry and I think Hey, get away from my lunch! Chat Icon

And sometimes I think my over-cooking is definitely not good for portion control! Chat Icon

Re: Dinner

lately just enough- if there is extra dh will use for next day snacking or lunch- but for the most part i try to make just enough for 2- saves us $ as well

2 pieces chicken or 2 steaks or 2 pork chops
2 servings couscous (i buy plain and add my own stuff)
1/2 bag of lettuce for salad or 1 bag of spinach if steaming

Re: Dinner

We try and cook just a bit more than we eat. I go home for lunch everyday and will eat the leftovers.

I usually make just enough. I have learned we will never eat the leftovers. They only things I make more of, because DH likes them is my macoroni or when I make stir fry, those two things he will take for lunch the next day, otherwise its in the garbage.

Re: Dinner

It depends on the week. If I know we have a busy week ahead of us & no time for cooking, I make enough for leftovers for the rest of the week.

If I know I can cook, I make just enough but still a little extra. For example, I made 6 chicken breasts last night & have 2 leftover.

We always make too much and end up throwing away, giving to the dogs, or putting in the fridge and then throwing away when we find it again Chat Icon

Re: Dinner

I try to make just enough because no matter how much I make I never seem to have leftovers which is very bad for portion control so I stick to just enough for two!

Re: Dinner

We cook just enough for the two of us.

During the winter, I make larger meals b/c I don't mind putting the oven on to make a chicken stuffer or roast beef.

Neither DH or I are left over eaters .........
So I try to make only what we will eat. - Otherwise it just ends up going to waste

Re: Dinner

I feel like we undercook.

Then we graze about the kitchen looking for more the rest of the night.

And unfortunately, the Ben and Jerry's in the freezer fills me up just fine. Chat Icon

I am really only good at cooking for an army, so we always have leftovers. However, my husband doesn't eat leftovers...so its just me eating them.

I usually make enough for two dinners, so we eat the leftovers the next night for dinner. This way I only have to cook ~4 nights/week instead of every day.

You call it tea because you're NORTHERN and you cook too much because you're Jewish! Chat Icon

UK Side note for Racheeeee - Seb and I were watching Billy Elliot the other night and he goes He doesn't seem to really want to go to this school. I said that's because he's Northern and has to appear stoic and unaffected. Little while later he says, Does the dad even want him to dance? Me: Of course not, he's Northern and expects his son to be stoic and manly. Still later: Why is the teacher being so pissy, didn't she want him to get in to the school? ME: She's NORTHERN forchrissakes! She has to act like it's no big deal and she doesn't really care!!!!!

Yeesh, you'd think HE would know these things! His mom's from Yorkshire! Chat Icon

Re: Dinner

i usually make just enough... but certain things we'll make extra of and get two meals out of it. we like a lot of rachel rays pasta dishes, which are waaay too much for just two of us, so when we make one of them we'll get two meals out of it.
i try not to cook too much extra normally though, because DH likes to go out for lunch everyday, and never takes leftovers with him... so they usually just end up in the trash

same here. as far as portion control, if i am making extra for leftovers the next day, i will portion out dinner for DH and I and then immediately wrap up the rest. no seconds in our house.

We always have leftovers (Usually the veggies and sides). I save them for lunch the next day.

Pasta I usually save as well. I usually tend to make too much.
