Dilemma: How long between diaper changes?
Just curious how long everyone go between diaper changes?
My DS sleeps through the nights - 8 to 10 hours easy - but this is becoming a mixed blessing because he's starting to develop a diaper rash from not getting changed every 2 to 3 hours ...
Would you risk waking up DC to change him?

I would try a few things first. Put on A&D so that there is a barrier.
I'd also invest in Overnight diapers. Huggies makes them, the smallest is a size 3, but DS wore them when he was way smaller than the weight limit.
If he continues to get red, then yeah, I'd start doing a change in the middle of the night. HTH

What we do is make sure to change DS immediately before putting him to sleep. I also lather him with the A&D at bedtime. HTH

Re: Dilemma: How long between diaper changes?
i wouldn't, but thats just my opinion. My DS pees a lot and he's 18 months old (drinks a lot of water) so we have to change him every 1.5-2 hours during the day (and he still gets diaper rashes-been to my ped numerous times for them), but at night, i let him sleep as that's more imp't to me and it doesnt seem to bother him. His tushy is always a little red, but I checked with my pediatrician and he said that b/c he pees so much, it's normal and babies wearing a diaper all the time doesn't help (he says he hates the way diapers are made, they keep the moisture in and he said he see's so many kids with constant diaper rashes). Anyway, do what you think is best for your DC ETA- we use huggies overnight, change him right before we put him down, and slather on diaper rash cream and baby powder to help

Re: Dilemma: How long between diaper changes?
2-3 hours during the day and at night I let her sleep all night but I do change immediately before bed and put on a generous amount of A&D

I change her immediately before bed and slather on cream and powder. She sleeps 8-9 hours and there's never been any problems or redness.

Re: Dilemma: How long between diaper changes?
Thanks for everyone's responses so far...
A&D seems to be the ointment mentioned the most. Is that a preventative ointment unlike Triple Paste or Butt Paste which treats diaper rash?
I have Desitin but so far that's not helping much... now I've moved on to Butt Paste but it's been a few days and so far no result... :(

Yes, A&D is preventative. Desitin, and Butt Paste are both for when the child actually has diaper rash.

A&D is more of a gel and it keeps the urine from the skin.
I don't think Desitin or Butt paste will help prevent a rash, but will help treat it. Actually, I'd put the butt paste on, then the A&D on top of that.

Just be careful with the butt paste... it actually burned Kristina more when she had a diaper rash after using it for a few days.... I felt so bad.
The thing that I find that works the best is cheapo old Balmex. I put that on Kristina now with EACH & EVERY diaper change, which during the day comes around every hour to two, and later her up at night before she sleeps for 13 hours...... and NO I wouldn't wake him....

The thing that I really LOVE about the Balmex is the disclaimer that is right on the front of any tube or jar that you see....
It states:
NEUTRALIZES IRRITANTS IN DIRTY DIAPERS....
So far - it's held true for Kristina... over a month now and her diaper rash hasn't come back. It was consistently coming back with Triple Paste, Butt Paste (burned the $hit out of her) and prescription ointment that the doctor gave us.

I wouldn't wake the baby. Once Emerson started sleeping through the night I just slathered her butt to death with Butt Paste. So far, so good. No rashes yet and she's been sleeping through the night since 7 weeks old. She 4 months today!!

Re: Dilemma: How long between diaper changes?
I would try different diapers. DS will occassionally sleep 6 hours straight and he has never woken-up with even the slightest pink on his toosh... he might pee through to his pj's , but never a pink toosh
we use 7th gen diapers and vaseline. desitan is definitely stickier than vaseline and might work even better.... but we've never had to invest in it. (he's only had light diaper rash a couple times... both due to poo, never pee... I think that's why dr's say it's not necessary to wipe after a pee diaper....)
oh, but to answer your question, we don't wake him during the night to change him, and we change him every 2 hours during the day

Re: Dilemma: How long between diaper changes?
I would never wake up the baby to change a pee diaper, I would for a poop diaper though.
Before the last diaper change, put ALOT of Desitin or A & D all over the area and during the day too until the rash is totally gone. Then do it just at night.
