Ok - SO we bought DS a twin race car bed on craigs list. We were going with a whole race car theme.

YESTERDAY our friends came over for his birthday and gave him a toddler bed and mattress! I don't want to hurt their feelings. I guess we'll use the bed for a while and then switch to the twin?????

Here is the bed:

Question:
What kind of bedding?

What color paint?
ETA - this is not his room - just a pic of the bed.

Re: dilemma - What would you do? - a double gift

That is a strange gift to give someone. IMO I would go with the theme you wanted. It seems like a waste to paint and buy bedding for a year or two.

I agree. I think in this situation I would say something to your friend. I mean where will you store the twin bed you already purchased for DC?

Is it something that is hard to put together? Can it be dismantled and used for a sleepover?

I would go with your original theme. Thats kind of a crossing the lines type of gift....not someone's place to decorate your child's bedroom. I'm sure the gift giver wasn't thinking in those terms and just wanted to give a nice gift, which it is, but not really appropriate. I'd explain you already got him a bed. Can you use it at Grandma's or any ones' house where your DC would sleep over?

This is kinda like giving a kid a puppy for their birthday without asking the parents! Chat Icon

The bed isn't really something that blends in either.

I would tell your friends thank you very much but that you had already purchased a bed for your DS. Chat Icon I would not keep the bed they gave just because it was a gift. Why suffer when it's not what you want or envisioned for your DS.

I agree with the other replies, that is an odd gift to give without checking with the parents. I would try to find a way to tactfully tell them about the bed you just bought your DS. It seems like a waste all around since you don't want it and they spent good money on it. I don't know if that's possible...some people get offended easily even though you don't mean to insult them.

BTW, I had the LT red race car bed for DS #1 when he was small and it is awesome. My DS loved it. We had to get rid of it when I had DS #2 bc they would be sharing the room and it's so big but the resale is great. I bought it on CL for $125 and sold it a few years later for $100.
