Different kind of curling iron? Is it called a clipless?

My sister was watching a show and saw a girl using a curling iron that you didnt have to twist and clip around the hair. Instead it was like a straightner..where it just opened and closed on the hair and curled it. I was searching for them and I assume they are called clipless curling irons? Are they? And if so, does anyone own one? I want to buy her one for Christmas but want to get a good one. Thanks!

A clip less curling iron is also called a curling wand and you wrap the hair around the barrel to use that.

What you are describing sounds like a waver. You place the hair between two curved plates and clamp them down to create waves.

either way, Ulta has both of these, and there is a website called folica.com that sells every sort of hair tool out there and they always have coupons and sales....

ask your sis to show you a pic of what she is talking about so you know which one you are looking for...

ETA;
I have owned both of these but I haven't had a waver in years. I was looking at them and they seem to have much nicer ones out there now. I use my curling wand all the time... it is awesome.... those curls last all day.

The Sedu one 25mm barrel.....kinda pricey(150...but 25% off) but a girl at my work bought it recently and her hair came out great! She just watched a youtube tutorial. I also read good reviews about a different one (forgot name...but it sounded Italian...90 dollars I think) Their reviews were positive and I read about how the heat is evenly distributed. A year ago I bought a cheap conair one and it didn't work out. So now I moved up to the better quality one.

I heard the Enzo Milano (sp) also on folica.com is the best. My hairstylist has the HerStyler one (she bought it from a kiosk at the SI Mall) and she said its a great alernative to the Enzo and you can prob find it on Amazon for ~$50.

I bought the clipless Sedu iron earlier this year and I can't stand it! It had awesome reviews and everyone made it sound so simple so I had to have it. After reading reviews and watching numerous YouTube tutorials I gave it a shot and it did not come out good at all. Dont get me wrong, it could just be me or my hair (long and thick) but it ended up being a waste of money for me. I tried it quite a few times because I know sometimes you just have to get used to a new product...but no bueno!

I would stick with a regular curling iron on Folica :)
