There is no written rule on when you can take a baby out.
My DS was out right away. I would bring my DS to a party at 5 weeks. Others would not.
Its the parents decision and I would MYOB.
This...everyone makes there own judgement calls on things like this

Did they change how long you shoud keep NB's away from large groups? Should something be said?
I think you should mind your business. 8-12 is crazy long. *I* had ds out at 2 weeks. People do things the way THEY want. It's really not your call or place to say anything.

Thanks! I am minding my own business. My cousin was the one asking me if SHE should say something, since she knew there were so many people coming. I understand people do what THEY want
8-12 wks, is the range they usually say just based on immunizations. You don't have to follow it, some do some don't. It isn't that unusual, it can't be the first time you have heard that?

btw I have a 4 month old, our drs office said 8 weeks....... and the cant get flu shot til 6 months.... so yeah winter is higher risk

My discharge instructions from when I had DD 6 years ago said 8 weeks for large crowds and to limit visitors. She was born in December. I did take her out earlier in a covered car seat to the mall on a weekday but I don't know if I could be in a closed space with 50 people with a 3 week old. Too risky, especially during the height of flu and cold season.
That being said, I'd also MYOB.

I think it is all about your own tolerance level. I was out and about with my DS almost immediately. At 6 weeks old we were at the mall getting his picture taken with Santa. On the other hand, our neighbors wouldnt invite us in to see their newborn until 8 weeks after she was born and even then we werent allowed to hold her. I say MYOB.

I brought DD to a party in the summer when she was 3weeks old. I would have been annoyed if someone commented on that to me.

I brought my DD to a Christmas eve party when she was just 3 weeks old. My ped said it was absolutey fine, that babies have pleny of immunity from being in the mother at that age...

I asked him that very question and he came back with a snarky, dogs need shots before they go out not people.The DPT which I guess is most important needs more then 1 dose to be effective. BUT my Ped is very laid back. I know most Mom's who go back to work are left with no choice and start daycare around 6 weeks. I think everyone feels different. I probably wouldn't say anything cause it would seem pushy. to each their own with this type of stuff

Thank you! No one is saying anything to her. I know there are a lot of replies, but I think they were updated at some point. She was only going to remind her of how many people were going to be at party. It really doesn't matter my opinion, she just wanted our cousin to know what to expect, in terms of kids running around, 50 people in a tight space.
I had two different peds tell me 12 weeks for large groups...I didn't listen, but I didn't take them around large groups when they were 3 weeks either. In terms of starting daycare, in my experience, babies rarely started at 6 weeks. The norm was 3-6 months. Keep in mind, though..everything is continuoulsy being bleached..sanitized, etc. Daycare is almost a cleaner environment than going to a house party!

the whole keep away from crowds bit I thought came from..... if they get a fever in first 8 weeks they get sent to hospital-= spinal tap and 48 hr stay
we were always cautious and listened to doc cause when ds was born he had bad pneumonia was in nicu 10 days before he was released.... dd came home regular 2 day no icu and they still told us 8 weeks again

DS was 3 weeks old when we took him to DH's grandmother's 99th birthday party at a cousins house. We made sure no one was sick and kept other kids away from him and he was perfectly fine and the picture of him with his great grandmother is priceless!
