Yes, but I know my SIL in PA does not. Yet they get the first day off for hunting season.

I believe schools closed yesterday and today (mostly nycdoe) were closed yesterday for Yom Kippur and today for Eid (Islamic holiday).

Did LI schools have off today?
I don't think schools should have off for any holidays except federal holidays. HOWEVER< if a student, or teacher for that matter, wants to observe it, it should be an excused absence. I only say this because there are many different religions and TONS of holidays, if we start having off for all of them kids will never be in school. My kids haven't had a full week of school yet this months, it's nuts!

If we had school yesterday, I would have had 3 students show up (the rest would have been home celebrating Yom Kippur). Not much of a productive day! In fact, next week with Sukkot, I will be missing a large portion of my students, and I really cannot teach anything new with 1/2 of my class missing.
