did anyone's dc not start cereal at four months?

I'm jsut wondering if this is typical. I hear a lot of friends with kids that say their children started at about four months. My DS is recently four months and ped. said hold off until 6 months unless he was not sleepingthrough the night because of hunger.....

DS started at 6.5 months. He was due to start at 6 months but he got really sick and we had to hold off for a bit longer.

Main benefit is let their digestive system mature as much as possible.

DS was BFd and had all his nutrients from BM. He is a tall/big baby so we knew BM was enough for him.

He was also very colicky at a few weeks old so I wanted his digestive system to mature a bit longer before introducing cereals.

Our ped told us we would know when he would be ready. That he would start watching us eat. Those are cues.

At 6 months we could see the cues he had mentioned.

My DD is 7 months and still doesn't eat solids. We waited untill 6 months and now she just won't have it.

We waited until Megan was 6 months old to start cereal.

The ped said there was no reason to start it any earlier and she never seemed "starving" so we just held off.

Wasnt a problem at all..she took to it fine.

There is no health reason to start solids at that age. I waited until 6 months. there is a lot of research that shows starting it before 6 months old can increase food allergy issues.

My son started at 5 1/2 months.

We started at 6 1/2 months. DD is also BF and didn't seem ready until then. We also waited because I was afraid of food allergies. I knew she was getting everything she needed from BM.

I just had this conversation with DD doc...I asked when I should start cereal (shes 4 months now) he said when shes 6 months, i had always thought you started at 4 months but what do i know...he said we could start now, but if you can wait until 6 months do that...so since DD is sleeping through the night and is satisfied with the formula we are waiting until July to start.

My PED doesn't start any babies before 6 months because of the research that starting solids prior to 6 months can increase chances for food allergies, diabetes and obesity later in life.

we started at 5 months even though we had gotten the OK at his 3 month visit
