there was a post about this not too long ago.
I feel bad for her and really believe that the baggage workers at the airports are involved and they punished her for her attorney speaking out. I feel if he had been quiet she would have a light sentence

I don't know what to think really. There are so many other things that I have heard that is on the media here, but then I think about the Indonesian legal system, so I am a bit torn. The HBO special that aired in the US is an edited one that aired over here.

Honestly, I really can't. I didn't pay that much attention to the story, but I do remember hearing little bits and pieces throughout the years. I can't really quote anything accurately, but I can say I am not sure what to think.

I actually watched this the other night and was going to post on it b/c it was really interesting. I googled her name and there have been recent articles on her story - recent as in the last couple of days. I totally believe she is guilty and according to the articles, the tide has changed in Australia and most people now believe she is guilty. her father, who has passed from cancer, was a major marijuana dealer. Also, her lawyer just admitted that he was incorrect about the baggage carrier allegations and apologized for it. People are complaining that she also gets special treatment - she was just admitted to a psych hospital for evaluation. There were other new pieces of evidence that tend to show that she and her family were not entirely truthful about the case.

I would not say that. I think it is more 50 / 50. I know people that think she is innocent, people that think she is guilty and a majority of people that are tired of hearing about it. Stuff about her is on a lot here. So many rumours, who knows what is true anymore.
I think the thing that most Australians think about is the relationship with Indonesia. The relationship was strained. It is our closest trading partner and they are new to democracy (ten years). People had a problem with the courts and the legal system. If there hadn't been so much media coverage she probably could have paid her way out. There are pics that she gets taken out to hair salons, b/c she is rich. The big thing is she had to be treated the same as others who got caught smuggling.
There are very strict drugs laws for trafficking. Right after she got caught, the Prime Minister at the time, John Howard, warned against bringing drugs to Indonesia. What happened right after that? Nine people (the Bali nine) brought heroin in. Some were sentenced to death. I do think the punishment is a bit harsh and the main problems are the courts. The death penalty with problematic courts makes for a difficult situation.
