If you are worried, I would call a trainer. The dog might be picking up on your fear that it will bite someone. Although it wasn't good that your dog tried to nip your nephew I wouldn't label him agressive.

DS and our dog have been fine together. But I don't leave them alone together ever.

My dogs are very hyper, are not great with kids and very bitey during play (or even when they get annoyed). I was worried before DD came BUT I would never get rid of them. I knew that they could do it, be good, but it just would take extra work on my part. To me my dogs are my babies, they aren't going anywhere, even if they had to stay away from teh baby until she was older. DD is 11 mths and I have alot of baby gates around. My male dog has gone to bite her hand (playfully though) but that's the way he is, he gets nippy when excited. So far, it has worked out well and DH and I do ALL we can to make sure our dogs are content. I take baby and dogs on long walks. She loves them, but right now she is rough with them so she has to be supervised at all times around them.

I know my dogs dont mean any harm, they are just a bit crazy. I have to say I think they have done amazingly well considering they lived in this home for 4 years before a child entered the picture. Get a trainer now. To me it really doens't sound like your dog has real agression issues. You have to want to make it work and if you want it bad enough, it will work.

Thanks. I do want it bad. Like I said, the thought of having to give her up literally makes me cry! It's to the point where I am contemplating waiting to have kids until she is older or even gone Chat Icon just because the thought of giving her up kills me...I think she has selective aggression if that even exists b/c with our parents, my sister, my best friend, my grandparents, even my with my Dad's friend who she never met before she was fine with (he helped us move boxes in during the move) and then with others, for whatever reasons, she isn't good...everyone who has seen it thinks it has something to do with her sensing their fear but i'm not convinced....

I really have to figure something out now before we start trying....maybe I can get a trainer and I guess we'll have to provoke the dog so the trainer can see what it is she does....
