diaper rash what could cause it?
Besides diarrhea, milk allergy, and being on meds what could cause diaper rash?
DS has nothing going on this week except for a diaper rash, thank goodness. He's been eating A LOT this passed week. On Sunday he started with a small rash and now his bum isbright red almost entirely. Could a specific food cause this?
It hasn't gone away as quickly as it normally does. So I'm a little concerned it could be something he ate.

Acidic foods; pineapple, tomato sauce - stuff like that.

Could also be a yeast infection if traditional diaper creams arent working.

I was going to say the same thing..if its not responding to triple paste or boudreaux's could be yeast or fungal- you will need an Rx.

Really... he had spinach lasagna Sunday for lunch. And Monday he had pasta with chicken. I thought it might be that...

Triple paste isn't working... hmmm I wonder if its this now. How long should I wait to see if this is the cause?

When I suspect yeast rash I use Lotrimin (jock itch cream not athlete's foot) on the rash. I think it's 2 or 3 times per day.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see how it looks by tomorrow. If it hasn't changed, I'll buy the Lotrimin. Thanks.

Re: diaper rash what could cause it?
Try airing him out with out a diaper. Also might be the soap your using it.
I switched to Dove soap when my girls got really bad diaper rash & never had a problem after that.
Good Luck

No teething. He has no symptoms of teething that he normally does.

Re: diaper rash what could cause it?
I'm bumping my own post because the diaper rash stopped and then has come back. How quickly does it come back? I'm starting to get concerned. He won't last one week without getting a rash. It will clear up and then it comes back. I know it will happen but is it normal to be so often?

Re: diaper rash what could cause it?
DD's diaper rash only responds to a combination of aquaphor, baby powder (cornstarch), and a thick layer of desitin creamy. nothing else works - not triple paste or butt paste - and even when she doesn't have a rash, I use one of the creams plus powder. sometimes DD's rash will get better and then worsen the next day after a bad poop but then gets better again.

Re: diaper rash what could cause it?
did you change wipes brand? DS had a horrible rash a few months ago, like almost bleeding it was so bad. We tried butt paste, even an rx and nothing worked. I posted on here and someone said that it might be the wipes. I was using Pampers Sensitive, I got two 500 boxes for my shower, and sure enough, it was the wipes. I switched to a Huggies that I also got at my shower and the rash cleared up in less than 24 hrs. Now all we use is fragrance free whatever is on sale and we haven't had a rash since

my DS got it because the diapers were the wrong size (too small) not sure if this is normal but could it be that?

This is what is happening when he has explosive bowel movements.
Right now when we are at home I am wiping him with paper towels and then using baby powder and triple paste. This is so hard when he goes to daycare and is at my parents during the week. I have to keep telling them to change what they are doing. I just want to be able to treat it as it comes on. I’m sure going back and forth on what we use doesn’t help. But if I wasn’t working I would be able to figure this out. I seriously hate being a FTWM today!! I don’t think it’s the baby wipes because some days he has no rash at all. Then other days it is red, or bumpy like he has acne little tiny bumps. I think it’s the food. For now I definitely know it isn’t teething. He has no other teething symptoms so it has to be something else. grrrr

I dont' think it's the wipes becauase some days he doesnt' have a rash at all. But I have this feeling it has to do with tomato sauce or acidic foods. A day or two after he eats lasagna, pasta or anything in red sauce it brings on a bout of a rash. I need to document this because DH keeps telling me DS had a rash on days when I ‘m sure he doesn’t. He had meat lasagna on Sunday and by yesterday evening, he had little acne bumps .

Re: diaper rash what could cause it?
Are there any bumps to it? Almost like blisters? DS had a rash like that and it was not yeast. I can't remember what it was called, but he needed a specific prescription to clear it up.

They are tiny bumps that look like face acne to me. A lot smaller than the puffy pimples but the little ones is what it reminds me of. But sometimes he gets this (like right now) and sometimes he doesn't and he just gets red. The worst he has had it are these little bumps.

Re: diaper rash what could cause it?
DD has one and we were at her checkup yesterday - dr. said it is just a contact rash - meaning they sit in their wet or poopy diaper too long and got irritated. That is the most common cause of diaper rash - sitting in something.

DD had tiny red bumps..came and went as you are describing and it was a fungal rash. Needed an rx.

I went to Ped this evening. I can't remember now what he said it could be. I'm exhausted and having a total preggo brain moment right now! He said to have him air out after a diaper change. No powder or triple paste. Use cortisone and on top of that the maximum strength Desitin. If it doesn't get better in a week to let him know. DS isn't in pain thank goodness. I just want it to go away!
