Diaper Pails and Alternatives
So many people say they are not worth it, but so many people swear by it. My question is, if I don't get an arm and hammer diaper pail or a diaper genie or whatever else... than what is the alternative? A regular garbage can? Is that OK? What is your take on this? I'm torn.

Re: Diaper Pails and Alternatives
I am going with Diaper Genie and apparently there is some sort of system where you tie off or knot off the bags. I dunno I personally wretch at the smell of poopy so I need to try and disguise it or get rid of it asap.

Re: Diaper Pails and Alternatives
Everyone I talked to said that the diaper genie and the refill type of diaper pails were a total waste of money. So, we registered for a plain diaper pail that you use with regular shopping bags, because that's what people recommended to us. Not really sure how thats gonna work out either.

This is what I got. Its cheap and has a separate compartment for baking soda. Its basically a plastic container though with a better sealed lid. I think a reg. garbage can would be fine too as long as you get rid of the diapers often.

Re: Diaper Pails and Alternatives
I throw wet diapers in the regular kitchen garbage. Poopydiapers I tie in the yellow BRU diaper sacks and leave outside my back door. At the end of the day I throw them all in the outside garbage pails. I find they stink up the house even in the yellow diaper sacks, I have never left one in the house more than 15 minutes because of that and besides I think it's gross

Re: Diaper Pails and Alternatives
Some people use a regular garbage pail. So far we just throw her diapers in the kitchen garbage. She is BF and they really dont smell. Now that she is eating solids, they are smellier, but we take the garbage out every day and it doesnt stink up the place at all. If it does, we will use a garbage pail in her room.
We had a diaper pail, but never used it and returned it. I didnt see the need.

Re: Diaper Pails and Alternatives
I have the genie and could never use a regular pail. I know DH would be forgetting to take it out and it would smell.....plus with summer coming and the heat.

I throw wet diapers into the kitchen garbage.
If the kitchen garbage is almost full, I will throw poop diapers in there too since it will go out soon. if it is a new bag, I will run outside and toss it.

Re: Diaper Pails and Alternatives
I have a small garbage pail next to her changing table. I use the scented bags in the pail. I just throw the wet diapers in the pail but will put the poopy diapers in a smaller munchkin brand arm and hammer scented bag. I throw out the bag every day into the kitchen garbage which gets thrown out every other day.
You can buy the above bags at Target. They are in the pet section and the baby section.

I have a small Simple Human step can that I line with the "Ruffles" brand scented liners. I have never had an odor issue and my DD has had some explosive poops!

Same here. I know people say the diaper pails do not smell, but they gross me out. The regular diapers I throw out in the garbage and the dirty ones I tie in a bag and bring outside.

Re: Diaper Pails and Alternatives
I have the diaper genie and just bought a second for baby #2. I could not live without it. Ours never stinks like others have complained. We empty it every other day and clean with lysol before putting a new bag in...never had a problem and wouldn't use anything else.

Re: Diaper Pails and Alternatives
I don't like any of the diaper pails that require to buy their bags - that gets expensive and annoying to stock.
We used the Diaper Champ for which keeps the smells in but uses normal garbage bags. We'll use it again for .
