Re: DH taking off??

DH gets one week paternity, but he's going to try to take some more time, and after that he's going to try to work from home either everyday or a few days a week.

He's planning to, but still has to make sure it gets approved. I am hoping for at least 2 weeks.

Re: DH taking off??

Our plan is for DH to take a few days off when we have the baby..but then we will have a nurse for 2 weeks and my mom staying with us for 2 or 3 weeks after that...so after everyone is finally gone, he will take a week off.

Re: DH taking off??

Dh told me yesterday he will be taking 2 weeks off. He only gets 2 weeks vacation a year so I told him he only had to take 1 and to save the other one but he really wants to take 2.

Re: DH taking off??

Yes. My DH saved some vacation time for when she is born so he can stay home.

Re: DH taking off??

Originally, DH was thinking of taking about 3 weeks. He gets one week from work, and for the next two he would need to use vacation time. But my parents are going to stay with us for a few weeks after the baby is born, so we should discuss again.

He may only want to take the week, and schedule his vacation at another time, after they have left. I might need the help then, and I suspect he may want to get away from his in-laws for a bit!Chat Icon

Re: DH taking off??

he's taking off about 3 weeks, but depending on how much time the grandma's take off - it might not be all at once.

Re: DH taking off??

Paternity leave would fall under FMLA so if your DH qualifies for FMLA, he could technically take 12 weeks off unpaid.

Unless you work for the same company! DH and I work for the same company and found out that we can only have at TOTAL of 12 weeks between the both of us for FMLA. (not that we could go without both of our salaries!!!) Just thought that was interesting.

No time off at all.
He probably won't even have the 2 days in the hospital off, hopefully I give birth on a weekend.
He's we be halfway through the LIRR engineer's program, and you can't take vacation during the course.

Re: DH taking off??

Guys just a word to the wise....if at all possible....

It may be better if DH takes one week off when baby is first born. My DH was home one week & did everything (diapers, feedings, etc.) & then he went back to work. We're saving time for when I go back to work next week (so he can get adjusted) OR it also pays to leave a few days for arouind the 6 wk mark when they get especially fussy & it grates on mom if she is on duty 24/7.

Just my thoughts.

wow - that's great. my husb said he'd be able to take a few days off, though i'm sure his job would give him more. he gets backed up if he isn't there and then it becomes stressful. as he says - we'll have 18 yrs to bondChat Icon

Re: DH taking off??

MY DH is taking 2 weeks. I am having a C-section, so some of that time will be while I am in the hospital. I wish he could have 2 weeks after I get home, but I guess I have to count my blessings. He has taken me to so many doctor's appointments and has taken a lot of time off. He does qualify for FMLA but there are more reasons not to take it than to take it (barring anything unforeseen).
