Development (milestone) question.
Do you think that holding a baby a lot can delay their development? Paige likes to be held a lot. She doesnt know how to play or entertain herself at all. She will be fine in something for maybe 10 minutes tops, then she starts to fuss a lot and of course that leads to crying. I try to give her tummy time, but she still hates it. She grunts and cries everytime i give her some tt. I also try to let her lay on her back but only last so long.
I get so nervous and paranoid that she is not hitting the necessary milestones. I could be overly obsessive too. She sees the ped. on Monday. I cant wait to ask some questions.

Dont worry every little bit helps. Even those 10 minutes of TT does wonders.

Re: Development (milestone) question.
She pays attention to something for 10 minutes? That is a long time for a child, much less a baby! My 6 year old gets bored in 10 minutes (which explains why her room is a disaster!!!).
I'm sure you play with her while holding her...they used to not have play mats, boppy pillows and such for babies and they all grew up fine. Don't sweat it too much!

Re: Development (milestone) question.
10 mins is a long time for such a young baby... I feel if you are interacting with her when you hold her, then she is getting a lot of socialization and language from you. If the concern is physical development, you may just need to let her cry a little during tummy time, hold her so she presses her feet into the floor, and do physical games with her where she has to move a little more.
I hold Cailen all the time, and he defintiely seems to be hitting all his milestones

Re: Development (milestone) question.
My DD is the same way at home when she's with mommy and daddy. But at daycare she sits and plays with toys with all the other little ones. I think they just like to be close to mom (or dad!).

How old is the child you are concerned about? If under a year old, I'd say that you are expecting alot for them to be playing or entertaining themselves...that type of play comes closer to 18-24 months...and even then, they are just learning to be imaginative and pretend.
