Design/layout help needed!
We're finally getting around to replacing our splinterfest of a stoop&walkway.
We know we want to widen the area up by the doorway as we want the space to accommodate seating. There are built in wooden benches now, but in the new design, we want to face out, not face the house.
We're replacing the driveway - it will have a paver border & apron, and lead into the walkway.
We're not limiting ourselves by constraints of the current design or landscaping - everything can be switched up (and the maple tree is dying, so it can go too). But we're stuck in a rut with what is already there. I need fresh eyes!
So how would you design this space?

these are the pavers (unilock: coffee creek) (not using that border)

Re: Design/layout help needed!
The only thing I would really change is add a small retaining wall for the flower beds by the house. So where the flower beds are now, maybe step it down how the steps go. My cousins have this and I love the way it looks.
Another option which we plan on doing down the road is creating an walk way from the side walk to the front door. When we have company it is annoying that they need to walk through our cars. This is there house. The stepping down is to the left of the door.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do like the idea of framing the beds. We don't have sidewalks on my block.

Re: Design/layout help needed!
should the "step" stay as it is? we're debating keeping the seating area raised, or make the step closer to the doorway and the seating is level with the ground...

I like the big rounded steps.
Are you opposed to changing the location of the walkway?

Re: Design/layout help needed!
So I would do the big rounded steps off your house - wider than the doorway (because I would have beautiful planters flanking the door), have the walkway come down to the sidewalk - straight through your grass, and then have stepping stones from the driveway to the steps. Does that make sense?

Re: Design/layout help needed!
Totally changes my opinion.
I really like extending the stoop area to next to the windows to create a grand entrance... what if instead of doing the rounded steps, do large flat-ish rectangle steps and have a walkway where your existing one is.... So it's similar to what you already have just have more of a "front" looking entrance, as opposed to a "side" looking entrance?

Thats what we're thinking too - widening almost to the windows.
I love your idea of a more "front" looking entrance. THANKS!
