Design help needed...

We're buying our office furniture.

Here it is:

External Image

We have the option to get a hutch or open shelving to go above one of the credenzas.

Here is the hutch:

Here is the shelving (it's only available in white):

This is actually the exact desk set-up we're ordering.

Here is our office:

So my question is - should we do the hutch in brown or the open shelving in white?

Re: Design help needed...

Oh and don't try to talk me out of ordering brown furniture for a brown room. With the amount of time we spend in our office - I'm not ordering white. It will get banged up. Fast. Chat Icon

Re: Design help needed...

i would do the shelves. IMO it will help the room look less crowded and dark. I think the hutch will make the furniture look "heavy"

Great pieces!

Re: Design help needed...

Jenn def. the shelves. Gorgeous!Chat Icon It will really brighten the rooms. Then you can have brown accessories on the shelves with whatever else you will put on the shelves. I can see some nice light sage or apple green accessories on those shelves as well. You can get storage boxes and magazine holders in these colors. And of course white accessories too. Chat Icon Then you add white frames or art work to the walls so they pop on the walls. For your desk, I would add the green and white accessories as well. You will have a room right out of PB or Crate & Barrel when you are done. Gorgeous Jenn, gorgeous. We can talk more tomorrow while we are at PB and lunch. Chat Icon

See brown furniture with brown walls looks gorgeous. Add whites and green or slate blues and that room will be gorgeous Jenn. I have other pics, but they are at work I think. I'll look for them and upload them. Chat Icon

I agree with the AP, get the white open shelves. It will open the room and make it lighter and brighter. I think the hutch will make it too stuffy.

Re: Design help needed...

Thanks for the pics Jen - I hadn't even considered green as an accent. I don't want blue b/c our bedroom is blue so I was leaning towards burgundy and maroon but green is great! Thank you!!

Re: Design help needed...

ok I found the other pics I wanted you to see. Sorry they aren't offices. Chat Icon But they are inspiration for colors.

You were talking about Maroon. Maybe something like this.

I know it's brown walls with brown shelves, but I wanted to show you what you could do with the shelves and the colors.

Inspiration for brown with green accents.

Hope these help in some way Jenn. GL! Can't wait to see what you do with the room.

Count me as another vote for the white shelving. I think it will look pretty against the brown walls, while the hutch would make the whole desk seem really big and overwhelm the room.

Re: Design help needed...

Thanks guys!

We ended up ordering on Saturday - they had the brown shelves in stock at that time - so I ordered those.

We ordered from Ballard Designs....
