Delivery preferences? Is this possible? Need advice

Is there a way to tell a delivery service or post office what NOT to do?

Here's the situation:

I will order something and it will be sent via USPS or Ups (rarely fed ex). The carrier will usually leave it with either business next door to me if I'm not home.

Sometimes the businesses have weird hours and then I can't get my package in a timely fashion. Maybe not
To Monday rolls around. Or I'll be alerted that it was delivered but I never got it and I have to hope it went next door and I have to wait until the next day to check. I also rather they not get my orders for privacy reasons (not that I'm ordering anything bad, but still).

Is there anything that can be done? Do I have a right to be annoyed ? I don't ever see an option to note this when I order stuff.

Why not have it shipped to a ups holding facility?

I don't think there is much you can do other than stop letting the business downstairs accept your packages and so you either know it was left at your door or you pick it up at USPS, etc. Before I lived in a doorman building, I had to send packages to my work address because sometimes the post man would leave my packages with the Dry Cleaners under me, sometimes I'd get a note on my door to pick it up at the post office (and there were at least 2 occasions where I was home the whole day when I got a note so I know the postman didn't even try ringing the bell). I guess it's possible to speak to your local PO but I wouldn't imagine they'd be willing to do anything. I've personally had horrible experiences with my local post office.

I didn't even know you could do that. Hmm. Is there a fee associated with that? That may be good

Yeah that's how it is for me. I'm sure the businesses don't want my stuff anyways lol.

I haven't ordered anything in a bit but I just ordered a dress and I'm eager to get it and it promoted my inquiry here.

No fee. Just find your local ups store and use that as the shipping address. They will sign for it if needed and you can go in, show id and pick it up.

Adding that it has to have been shipped via ups to do it to a ups store. If not same applies for fed ex. If is shipped fed ex send it to a fed ex store.

Try looking at the options in ups mychoice to see if anything fits your situation. FedEx has something similar.

I have diverted packages to ups and fedex stores if I knew I wouldn't be home.

If you usually have the same delivery guys, you could tell them your preference too. I always get different drivers, sometimes 2 different ones in same day. But, if you have a lot of businesses around, maybe you are on somebody's route.

Join myups.com and you can set delivery preferences, including having it shipped to a ups store.
