December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

I've already told my family that Christmas will be SPARSE for us this year--I don't have the energy OR the money to be spending time Christmas shopping right now. I think I'll pick up some ingredients and make a big fancy cookie basket for everyone. Chat Icon

What are all of you doing?

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

I actually already did most of of christmas shopping. We went lighter than normal, but I am figuring most people are going to understand. We were able to get some really good deals a few weeks ago at the Outlets in Deer Park. I have also ordered stuff online. I have already begun wrapping so that when my little guy is here and christmas comes, I wont have to think about it!

I'll probably send DH out to get giftcards for everyone. DH and I don't want to get each other gifts either and we did tell everyone that we don't want to go all out this year. Depending on whether Chat Icon is here or not, and how I am feeling, we might just stay home this year!!!

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

No gifts for anyone, other than DHs godson and we asked for no gifts in return. We also won't be getting each other anything, even for birthdays. Just not a priority at this point.

I don't imagine we will be participating in the holidays this year, due to recovery etc. We also are not decorating, it's just too much new that is going on (all new baby items, etc) in the house and we are going to forgo the holidays this year. After all, we will have the one present that matters most here.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

I'm a Jan mom to be, so I'm going on the light side from a hosting and cooking stand point. Started xmas shopping, and am going to try and just pace it out, shop on line and wrap as I go, so it doesn't feel so overwhelming. Want to decorate as well since its our 1st xmas in the house.

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

March mom and I told everyone I wanted to go easy on Christmas this year. I also did almost all the shopping already. I didn't want to wait to long. I didn't want to be 7 months PG walking around the hot mall with tons of bags. Chat Icon

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

I have been Christmas shopping and just bought wrapping paper today, so I can start getting everything wrapped.

I hope to be completely done shopping this week. I definitely went a little lighter than usual, but still bought gifts.

With 5 weeks til my due date, I want ALL the Christmas shopping done and wrapped so I can focus on getting my lil man's things together.

Can we say stress!!!! So much to do and time is flying!!!!

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

I'm a January mommy too and I've already started my shopping (thanks to QVC). I'm not putting up a tree, but I bought a real tabletop tree (thanks again to QVC) that's going to be delivered. I have my box of decorations already out, so I'll decorate the inside of my house. I would like to do some baking, but with my GD, I know I will be tempted to eat some cookies, so I just might not do it and avoid the temptation.

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

DH & I already told both of our families that we are only buying gifts for the kids this year. No adult gifts. I don't have the time or the energy & we just don't have the extra money to spare. The kids gifts I plan to buy online.

We also asked our family not to buy us anything & not to buy the baby any toys. He will only be a few weeks old by x-mas & already has lots of toys. We'd rather get gift cards that we can use on stuff for the baby, like diapers & wipes.

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

I'm due on Christmas. I don't celebrate Christmas, but DH does. We usually celebrate Christmas with DH's family, but we're playing it by ear this year.

I don't think DH and I will exchange presents b/c we have too much going on between the baby and moving into our new house. I want to tone down the holiday shopping this year for family members. We haven't started shopping yet, but we'll probably buy a lot of the gifts online.

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

I would always make Thanksgiving....I made everything from scratch for a good 10-15 people, well suffice it to say I'm not making it this year, which I'm upset about, I love cooking when I have the time and am relaxed...we're probably going to to go to each parents house and just hang out, which makes me sadChat Icon

I am due on 12/24, so the holidays are really up in the air this year. We are scaling back on gifts this year, and I'm sure people will understand.

Re: December mommies--going easy on the holidays this year?

as far as spending, i dont have that many people to buy for on my side of the family- just mom, brother and sister in law and on dh's side, it is his mother, father and aunt that lives with them..

we do about $50 each person. we spend a little less on dh's mother and father b.c they are older and have everything and at this point anything we get them is just adding to their clutter...
z
we'll still be driving ourselves crazy on Christmas. my family lives in NY and my dh's family is in nj and we are smack in the middle of the two.
