it reminded me too of nazi germany, plus how grindelwald was defeated in 1945 and his prison was named nurmengard.
so if i could go back to the cloak one more time, hypothetically if lily and james did have it in their possession that night and had the presence of mind to use it, would it or would it not have protected them?
i'm also still wondering how voldemort got his wand back after that night in godric's hollow. if he fled bodiless, how was he holding his wand still?
Voldemort got his wand back from Wormtail who summoned it for him.
The Cloak would not have helped Lily and James. They didn't know V. was coming, he just came through the door and bang! Maybe it would have helped to hide Lily and Harry but eventually he would have found them.

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
I was soo happy because I have been saying since book 1 that Snape would be redeemed. I kept saying that Dumbledore would never have such faith in Snape if he were truly evil! I feel vindicated!

Yeah DH read the online spoilers, and they were wrong about a lot of things. He thought Ron died and that Voldemort died in the ministry of magic.

I couldn't be happier with the way this book went. I have a few minor questions but overall BRAVO JKR!

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
I saw an interview with JKR before the book was released and she said she didn't cry at the end (which now I understand why) but she said she howled and cried hysterically at the end of another chapter? Which one do you think? I'm thinking when Fred died.

Or Snape, b/c he was the real hero of the book in a way.

I actually was actually the most emotional over Dobby's death for some reason. Fred's happened so fast and there was so much going on it was hard to digest it.

I know, that was awful. And then when Alberforth asked about him.
I love how Kreatcher and Harry's relationship came around and how loyal he was to him in the end.

I completely agree about Dobby! I was bawling like a baby!!
As for Snape, his death didn't affect me at that time because we didn't have his memories. Once we did I felt horrible, but it wasn't till after the fact.
ETA: I was a bit upset about Hedwig too

Hedwig & Dobby were the two I was most upset about, too. Dobby's was really the only death that she dwelled on, with everyone else, there was so much going on that you kind of had to move on. I kept thinking how Dobby would have been honored to die the way he did.
Fred going was awful, but I LOVED how Mrs. Weasley went after Beatrix in the end. I think it might have been one of the best lines in the book!

What did you guys think about when Ron and Hermione finally get together? I loved that Harry was like... "Seriously, THIS is the moment?!"

It was great! Brought a little comedy to a very intense series of events, you know?

Totally.. I laughed out loud when I read that hehehe.
What was everyone's favorite chapter?
Mine was BY FAR "The Prince's Tale"... absolutely loved every single thing about it... especially the way she captured Sanpe's love for Lily and just his character in general...

Re: Deathly Hallows - only look if you have FINISHED the book
What did you think of the last chapter - the "19 Years Later" part? I have to say that was the only part of the book that I did not like. I thought it would have been more emotional amd fulfilling to end right before it. Maybe she needed to do it for the kiddies...

I didnt **not** like it.. but it was not my favorite part of the book. I think that making it an "epilogue" was the right thing to do. I think if it had ended with he last chapter I would have been like WELL WHAT HAPPENS NEXT...
And she has said over and over she wants the harry story to be over now...this really made it very hard.

I LOL then too, and DH looked at me and asked why I was laughing, and I had to choke back tears as well b/c of the surrounding scenes as well.

Well, she leaves it open for herself to continue writing a new series based on these new children.....which would be interesting to read.
I'm glad she did it b/c it fills in some gaps and allows the reader to know that Harry can be happy.
