Dear Coworkers,
My name changed b/c I got married. DEAL WITH IT. It may take you a week or two to get used to it, but don't come complaining to me about the fact that I changed my name. Last time I checked, that was a decision *I* made. You are not me, nor are you married to me. So figure out how to pronounce my new last name (really, how hard is it?) and SHUT UP about it.
Honestly, people have something to say about EVERYTHING. Last time I checked, this was a personal choice, not one made based on YOUR convenience. I'll be here, with my new name, for far longer than I had the old one. You'll get used to it, I promise. Stop calling me to complain about it and for god's sake, stop calling my secretary to complain about it. I assure you we both have better things to do.
If you are CONFUSED, that's one thing, but don't call just to complain. Take yer bitchin' somewhere else!

One secretary has called my secretary 5 times already today b/c - gasp - no one can look me up under my old name anymore, so what ever will they do?! We have to change this so they can search for me under my old name still (please, it's been 3+ months), etc., etc., etc., and I want to gouge my eyes out.
It's NOT MY NAME ANYMORE! They can look me up under my actual name.

I know... I understand it's a BIG office, but c'mon already. It happens all the time!
I just got off the phone with a coworker who changed her name a few years ago after working here for a couple of years (as I did). She was INCREDIBLY helpful!

I think people have something to say no matter what you do. It's more common for the women I work with NOT to change their names, but that doesn't mean it never happens. It happens rather frequently.
I had several coworkers ARGUE with me over my decision. I finally had to say, "It's not up for debate. I'm not married to you!"

see THIS is what irritated me the most! i had several co-workers and supervisors come up and tell me why i shouldn't change my name "for safety reasons" (i work in law enforcement) because someday my kids might go to school with a criminal's kids and blah blah blah...
what if DH worked here? our kids would still have the same name as him, then, wouldn't they?
yeah, good point, double-standard dumba$$es.

My co-workers were the opposite! They were THRILLED when I changed my name and in fact my supervisor called me during our reception to make sure I signed the marriage license with my husbands name! LOL........It'll get easier.

OMG, I can totally relate! I've been married for 2 years, and there are still people that I work with who refuse to accept that fact.
One woman insisted that I should have hyphenated my name...my first name has 8 letters, my maiden name was 7, and my married name is 10- a 17 letter last name, could you imagine!?!?
