Re: Dear checkout lady at the Supermarket,

I see a little rudeness on both parts. I don't like when people talk on their cell in line at the grocery checkout, I find it rude, period. And I don't like when the cashier is snotty, I find it rude, period. Clearly you both were having bad days and things were bothering the both of you. Does it make either of you horrible people? No. Though I don't think condemning her to staying in checkout hell was a kind comment. I try very hard to never "wish" bad things on anyone, I never understood the point of it, it is mean spirited. I would let it go, stressing over things like this is what gives us grays hair! It's really not worth a second thought. Hope your day gets better and that you have a more pleasant experience at the grocery store next time.

Actually I hate when people talk on their cell phone while using public restrooms the most!!!!!

Beth, look at it this way... at least you didn't have your dog in the grocery store with you, and so far no one has asked you whether or not you drove your SUV to the supermarket so you could fit all of your bottled water. I'm just saying, it could be worse. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Seriously, hope you're having a better day today. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Signed,
I hope you stay in supermarket checkout hell forever more. You deserve the bad karma.

Actually, I'd love to be a cashier in the supermarket...no stress, no responsibilities, chit chat all day...it was my best job ever. Of course I was 16 and had no mortgage, but still...

And just to add, half the cashiers are on their cells or texting so why couldn't the customer be too?

I think the checkout lady should have kept quiet, period. I think that the fact that Beth didn't say anything to the checkout lady's face is indicative of how polite she is. She chose to vent on a message board.

Beth wasn't standing in the checkout (with or without toy dog in tow), holding up the line while she has a conversation with her girlfriend about the sleaze who didn't buy her flowers because it was their 2-month anniversary. Yes, those people deserve a comment. Not a harried mom just trying to get her gazillion tasks done.

Me too. I cannot stand that people are on them all the time. My least favorite place is the nail salon. I am trying to relax people, get off the phone and shut up.

I personally don't see what the big deal is if you are talking on the cell phone while checking out in a supermarket.

I don't know, JMO

I agree. No conversation necessary here. Unless you are being extremely loud i don't see the big deal.

Re: Dear checkout lady at the Supermarket,

I don't see the big deal with being on the phone checking out. And I am someone who is rarely chatting on their phone so I don't say that bc I do it all the time. It's one thing to be chatting about all your personal stuff for everyone to hear or holding up the line while you converse. Or not being prepared to swipe your card, hand over your money, coupons, etc.

But to be on the phone calling home while your order is getting rung up, how is that rude???

The cashier was out of line. Maybe she has people doing the holding up the line or hearing personal stuff all day long so she was reaching her limit but what gives her the right to say what she did? That was rude. Period.

I agree with the other comments about cellphone rudeness in general. I don't want to hear people's personal conversations while I'm in a nail salon, on a train, etc. - anywhere I'm a captive and am forced to hear it all. More than I ever want to know about a stranger. But that's a different story.

As for Beth's comments about staying in supermarket cashier hell, etc. - she didn't say that to the cashier - she was venting here. What's the big deal? I've seen worse - A LOT WORSE - on these boards so it seems fairly tame to me.

Hope your day got better, Beth.

as the cashier was still wrapping up with the customer in front of me, while I was placing my groceries on the counter, to save myself some time and aggravation for when I got home, so he could help out for 5 seconds by preparing dinner for us.

Beth, you didn't say this very important part until much later.

I agree. The situation is clearer. She was not ringing your groceries. She was still with the previous customer and it was only 5 seconds.

Re: Dear checkout lady at the Supermarket,

Coming from a mom who has a child that almost has meltdown every time we are at checkout I know the stress you were feeling and I would have been just as p*ssed as you were. Those 5 seconds that it took you to tell DH to start dinner is a HUGE time saver especially if Alex was not herself. It's not easy trying to cook dinner with a cranky toddler around.

Re: Dear checkout lady at the Supermarket,

i think it was rude of the cashier and she is lucky it wasnt me, cause I would have gave it back to her.

If your talking on the phone isnt disrupting the order of business, which, it appears you werent than you have every right to be on the phone. And you had every right to knock her upside her head with your cell phone (LOL). Chat Icon

Its not your problem if she was having a bad day, get a new job that isnt customer centered.
